Lacy James is a singer/songwriter, dancer and choreographer. She coproduced her debut CD Lovefeast with Jim Gallagher at the Gamble-Huff and Kajem/Victory studios in Philadelphia, and is currently writing material for a new album due in 2010. Lacy's dance company, Mereminne Dancers, has performed extensively in New York City. Her choreography and music has also been presented in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Germany. ...I saw a wonderful documentary where Messiaen was sitting at the piano and would play a chord and then state the colours he could percieve - quite elaborately, like 'purple with yellow polka-dots', etc. I have only ever met one other musician who had this gift - very unique. I tend to percieve more personality traits when listening to music and therefore astrology has been the concept which has helped me synthesize music's abstract mathematical landscapes into a more tangible realm - for example, the colour RED represents ARIES and has the corresponding ENERGY which can be found in the MAJOR scale and the key of C...
...I really enjoyed the BIRDSONG choreography - particularly the RED dancer: her hand & arm movements were quite pianistic (I wonder if she has ever played?) I am interested in knowing if you represented particular species of birds and how you chose the colours? Are you aware of Messiaen's abilty to see colours in music? Hope I'm not being too nosy...
