Sounds Like
Well, the people who listen to pop think I sound country, the people who like country say I sound folky, the people who listen to folk think I sound rocky - so I guess there's elements of all 3!
Apparently you can hear my Scottish accent when I sing and I'd like to think that my music sounds original. However, my favourite quote from a recent CD review said - "reminiscent of Carol King/Dolly Parton, but without the perky nipples on the album cover". Fair enough! Please feel free to check out the tunes and draw your own conclusions:-)
Hey! I'm a Glasgow based singer/songwriter currently trying to carve out a niche for myself in the music industry. I'm influenced by all kinds bands and singers that are around at the moment as well as many of the modern contemporary country and folky artists too!
For a bit of background, I been singing professionally for 5/6 years now, starting off in my teens singing covers in bars with my acoustic guitar. After leaving school, I decided to write and perform my own songs and in the last couple of years have made this my main focus. After finishing a degree in business studies in 2004, I took up the full time role of "Broke Musician" and quickly realised how difficult it was to attract the interest of major record labels. As a result, I decided to record my first album "Drive", independently at the end of last year and put it out on my own label (Vola Records) to be sold online through my website www.laurakenny.com. This has enabled me to make half a living and this month the label was awarded the BT/PSYBT young E-ntrepreneurs "Best e-Business 2006".
Now that I have been introduced to all this technology stuff (and consequently been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century!) I thought I'd give myspace a go! Please feel free to listen to the tracks and drop me a line anytime!
