Laura Dockrill is a spoken word artist and illustrator from south London. http://timclare.blogspot.com/2009/02/performance-poet-interviews-1-dockers.html
Raised by a family where eccentricity is the second thing checked by the nurse, on request, her moniker 'Dockers MC' is enthralling.
Verbally drowning the audience with a treasury of words, she feeds the audience monologues of characters she had created with her ability to absorb traits of people by face, voice and observation alone.
Its Dockers' clarity and hilarity combined that makes her talent immensely entertaining. Delivered in a captivating way that literally has the audience indulging on her every word, and vying to be caught in her dottily dressed eye contact.
As well as having an audience in the palm of her hand, her hands are also the second string to her bow.
At her fingertips she is blessed with an illustrative talent that not only consumes the on looking eye, but it is a pictorial overview of the slideshow in her mind.
Her drawings are enough to make you wish that 'see' had invited his other 6 sense friends to get involved when she was drawing it.
Artwork for Kate Nash and Scroobius Pip have been the perfect expressive platform for her creativity.
This year has started well for Dockers MC, she was selected by the Times newspaper as one of the top 10 literary talents for 2008.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.
Black Suede has just recently released a New song titled "Revenue Stream." We know you have great taste in music. Drop through and let us know what think about it. Your Opinion Means a lot!
I'm alriiiiight thanks.......well apart from i'm currently hiding in my room because of terrible people in the vicinity who told me to 'fuck off' because i said hello and tried to read them some notes i wrote about my dad pretending to phone his dead ex-girlfriend. Is that a good answer for that question? I think so.
How are YOU?
Oh yeah I bought your book in an actual shop and it reminded me of being at school and the really awful boy who looked like a bulldog would shout things out at me when he was standing at the bus stop and then sometimes when the terrible girls said hello to me i thought they were joking so i ignored them and then they said i was RUDE.
Yo! Lovely meeting you finally! Richie said you might be making an appearance to see his debut at Hammer and Tongue? In the words of Ms Doyle .. "go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on "x
Hi Laura! I tried to go to watch you say words at the art gallery tate place a few weeks ago, but I forgot to leave on time and turned up when everything was ending and ruined my life again. Terrible.
Thought I would let you know I HAVE NEW SONGS so maybe you should go and put your ears by them. They are nearly-not-terrible because I worked out how to make real recordings by going to college but there are still some hints of good terribleness..well actually a few hints of bad terribleness too, but not enough to ruin my life or anyone else's really.
Also, Play.com never delivered your book and I ordered it in August. I hate them.
