Layabouts nace del encuentro de cuatro jóvenes madrileños Javi, Jon, Rober y Víctor, que se juntan en octubre de 2005 para formar una banda de pop guitarrero, con una clara influencia británica. La cosa empieza a funcionar desde el principio y salen canciones de forma natural donde el protagonismo lo tienen las melodías vocales y los riffs de guitarra.
Como principales influencias suelen nombrar a Joy Division y los grupos americanos de garage de los 70, aunque es fácil reconocer las raíces en los clásicos de los 60 y las grandes bandas del rock. Así, podemos oler aromas a Beatles, Kinks, The Who o hasta The Cure en sus canciones. También tienen sus referentes en la música actual y no dudan en mostrar su admiración por bandas como Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bloc Party, The Bravery, The Hives, We are Scientist, Arctic Monkeys…
Tras sus primeros conciertos se suma al grupo para los directos Martí Perarnau (Underwater Tea Party, Sixty-nine Million Inches) para arropar las canciones con los sintes. Los arreglos que introduce Martí dotan a las composiciones de Layabouts de unas dimensiones mucho mayores y su presencia se hace indispensable sobre los escenarios, tanto que termina convirtiéndose en miembro definitivo de la banda.
El quinteto viaja a las cálidas tierras del Puerto de Santa María en marzo de 2007, donde graban con la producción de Paco Loco en los Estudios Odds su álbum de debut.
Las grabaciones fueron rápidas y se hicieron en un tiempo menor al inicialmente previsto y las mezclas se mandan a los estudios Sonoland de Madrid, donde Dani Altarriba se encarga de la masterización. El resultado de este trabajo son once cortes que forman “Layabouts”, un disco que podría catalogarse de “rock bailable” pero que tiene garage, power pop, rock...
“Fine for me” es el single de presentación del disco, la ventana que se abre al interior de Layabouts, un tema absolutamente pegadizo que invita a tararearlo desde la primera escucha. Pacific Productions han sido los encargados de realizar el videoclip, dirigido por Iván Mena Tinoco.
Layabouts han sido elegidos como mejor grupo maquetero de 2006 por los oyentes de Disco Grande de RNE-3.
Tras un año de gira que les llevó a tocar por toda España y participar en festivales como Paredes de Coura en Portugal, Universimad, Sonorama, Indyspensable, Pulpop, etc, el grupo se encerró en los estudios Garate para grabar “…and they ran into the woods” junto a Kaki Arkarazo, un disco un tanto más oscuro que su debut y, sobretodo, más rockero y menos artificial. Tras esta grabación Martí deja la banda por la imposibilidad de compaginarla con su otro proyecto Underwater Tea Party.
Este segundo disco saldrá a la venta en septiembre y antes se publica el single de presentación “Corrupted Scene Behind The Stage” junto a un tema inédito y una versión de The Animals, y se editará en vinilo y en una tirada limitada. Estas canciones se grabaron con Raúl de Lara en los estudios NeoMusicBox de Aranda de Duero (Burgos), en los primeros estudios de grabación construidos en una bodega para otorgar a la música de Layabouts su denominación de origen.
En Otoño de 2009 Layabouts comenzarán la gira de de presentación de su segundo disco "...And They Ran Into The Woods".

Layabouts are a young band formed in Madrid in the fall of 2005. The four original members (Javi, Jon, Rober and Victor) wanted to start an indie rock band after finishing their previous projects. They started rehearsing together when naturally powerful guitar riffs and catching vocal melodies bonded together to create their first songs.
As major influences they normally name Joy Division and the american garage bands of the 70’s, although you can easily recognize classic influences from bands of the 60’s. This is the reason why in their songs you can see strokes coming from the Beatles, The Kinks, The Who or even The Cure. They also have influences in the actual rock scene and are not afraid to confess their admiration for bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bloc Party, The Bravery, The Strokes, The Hives, White Rose Movement, Death From Above or Test Icicles.
After a few months, Martí Perarnau (Underwater Tea Party, Sixty-nine Million Inches) joined to the band, first as a live musician, playing keyboards and sinthesizers, which give a new three-dimensional atmosphere to the songs and more dancing rythms. Finally, he became a permanent member of Layabouts.
In March, the band moved to Cadiz to record their first studio album produced by the acclaimed producer Paco Loco and mastered by Dani Altarriba at Sonoland Studios in Madrid. “Fine for me” is the first single and Pacific Productions has produced the video, directed by Iván Mena Tinoco.
Layabouts was voted as the 2006 Best Amateur Band by Disco Grande’s audience, one of the most important radio programs in Spain.
After a one year tour in which the band played all over spain and in many festivals like Paredes de Coura (Portugal), Universimad, Sonorama, Indyspensable, Pulpop, etc, Layabouts went into Garate Studios to record "...And they ran into the woods.", produced by Kaki Arkarazo. A more darker record than their debut and, above all, more rock based. After the recording sessions were over, Martí leaves the band due to the impossibility of reconciling his participation in the band with his other proyect Underwater Tea Party.
This second album will be released in September 2009 but before that, the album's first single "Corrupted Scene Behind The Stage" will be published. The single will include a new song and a cover of The Animals' original song "Inside Looking Out". The single will only be released on vinyl in a limited print run. These songs were recorded by Raul De Lara at Neo Musicbox studios in Aranda de Duero (Burgos), the first recording studio built inside a wine cellar and designed by Philip Newell.
In the fall of 2009, Layabouts wil begin the "...And They Ran Into The Woods" Tour 09/10.

Geniales las canciones del nuevo disco. Me encanta la fuerza que tienen, especialmente "The River and The Razorblade". Espero pronto veros tocando en Valencia, porque parece que no estamos en la gira. Un saludo y suerte.
