Influences
Watching people when they're not looking, messy details, bad moods, Mozart, Harry Belafonte, independent press, Emma Goldman, Sloan, Oliver Schroer, Bobby McFerrin, Imogen Heap, The Vancouver Bach Children's Choir, Yiddish lullabies, animal dreams, love, Nijinsky, murder ballads and old-time music, CBC radio, books on tape, the colour blue.
Experimenting
with a cast of jazz stars on organ, bass, and drums, Leah Abramson writes songs in East Vancouver, sings with her electric and acoustic guitars, and attempts to not take herself too seriously, sometimes succeeding in doing so.
When she is not working, writing, touring, singing on records or performing solo and with her old-time band, Dyad, she is joining new bands, watching movies in her bedroom and trying not to be a hermit. Leah released her first full-length album, Bedroom/City, in 2005/06 on Copperspine Records, and is available to download from iTunes Canada, also through Copperspine.com!

Nice to meet you! NxEW.ca (North by East West) is a group blog covering Canadian music. At this point we have 90 writers covering 27 Canadian cities in 10 provinces and 1 territory. We hope to add many, many more contributors in our ongoing effort to bring together Canada's varied music scenes in one place to share ideas and information, to talk about what's going on locally and what's going on nationally. If you think you might want to contribute read this. Even if you are involved in the 'music business' (musicians, managers, promters etc.,) you are more than welcome. (details here.)
We also have a weekly Mixtape Podcast - if you have music that you'd like to submit for that, get in touch.
