Hello there all you fans of Epic Doom Metal!!
Thank you all for coming to the gigs this summer. It has been awesome!! The response to the new album has really inspired us to be even better live. I mean..with fans like you we feel at home all over the world..so thank you for all the great support!!
The gigs in Sweden with Angelwitch and Trouble were absolutely fantastic!! I had a wonderful time seeing Kevin Heybourne play and sing, and we even shared trains in between the cities. Angelwitch and Trouble were totally super live…and man….to see and hear Rick and Bruce play guitar is nothing but mind blowing! They play like one big guitar!! Just great!! 3 great bands and not one ego in sight…..
After an incredible gig in Stockholm last week, we went down to Greece and Athens to play the last show for the year. And what a kick it was!
Nearly 1000 people went absolutely nuts during our 2 hour set! Fucking hell…I even had to stagedive, hehe…it's on youtube if you wanna see yours truly
crowd surf…too bad they missed the leap out from the monitor! It was quite a gap there to the fence..gulp…It was filmed with 4 – 6 cameras so if not the curse of Candlemass strikes (again) i’m sure you will see soon on a tv screen near you.
At home relaxing now…have bought a bunch of cd’s and books to plow while i’m healing the pretty overworked mind, body and soul. This is what Dr Edling recommends…The new Beatles remasters…Sounds incredible!! Buy all of them from ”Revolver” and later…Best ”pop” band ever without competition…and I like the new Porcupine Tree album. Just bought the new Devil’s Blood…have to listen to it about 20 times more, but is sounds very promising indeed! Quite addictive stuff, hehe…Got Winos latest…good stuff…get the vinyl! Dead Weather…a couple of cool tracks…will see them live in Sweden soon..and buy Switch Opens (ex Fingerspitzegefühl) while you are at it…groovy, heavy, minimalistic…Check out the Sinister Realm release as well…good classic metal!!
Books…hmmm….John Ajvide Lindqvists new one ”Human Harbour” (the guy behind Let the right one in). Island people being swallowed by the sea!! ”Ghostwriter”…ok thriller..John Le Carre’s ”A wanted man” ..and some wine book I read this summer…don’t believe in reading about wine…drink it instead!
Films….just go and see ”District 9!! Great movie…a cross between ”Bad Taste” and ”Starship Troopers”…amd the coolest antihero ever on film…Wikus for President!!
Peace, Love and Doom
/Leif

Not many musician can claim to inventing an entire genre of music but Leif Edling can do just that for Epic Doom Metal. Born on August 6th 1963 in Vasaby Sweden, Leif Edling started his musical career in the band Trilogy, then under the name of Toxic in 1979. He then played in a band named Witchcraft but left in 1981 and formed Nemesis in 1982. Nemesis released one album called "The Day of Retribution" which eventually led to a name change to Candlemass and a record deal with Black Dragon Records. Candlemass and Leifs unparalleled songwriting would go on to define an entire movement of metal with its epic and skull crushing heavy sounds. Albums like "Epicus Doomicus Metalicus" and "Nightfall" have a reserved place in the heavy metal hall of fame. Candlemass would experience some member changes but the doom never stopped with cult classic albums like "From the 13th Sun". A multi talented individual Leif would spread his creative wings into a more progressive territory with Abstrakt Algebra and later with the retro 70s doom monster Krux. In the new millennium Leif Edling has received great success again with Candlemass. A swedish grammy came in 2005 and the latest album ”King of the grey islands” has recieved brilliant reviews from all around the world. Now it’s time for his solo effort ”Songs of Torment, Songs of Joy”. Out on GMR records nov 19.
