With a power-pop/rock style that also has jazz and R&B influences, along with catchy melodies, tight harmonies and a remarkably energetic and magnetic stage presence, the 17-year-olds of LEMONFACE have been keeping busy with gigs at acclaimed clubs such as the 9:30 Club, the Rock n' Roll Hotel, and the Black Cat in Washington, D.C., 8x10 in Baltimore, Jammin' Java in Vienna, Va. and Galaxy Hut in Arlington, Va., as well as CBGB's 313 Gallery in New York City and Cobalt Cafe in Los Angeles. They have shared bills with bands such as Flogging Molly, Rooney, The Hush Sound, Augustana, The Fold, and Jimmie's Chicken Shack.
Their new six-song EP was produced by legendary drummer John Molo (Modereko, Phil Lesh and Friends, John Fogerty and Bruce Hornsby and the Range) and has received airplay on XM Radio's RADAR Report on XMU/Channel 43.
WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT LEMONFACE:
"Lemonface traffics in the sort of propulsive punk-pop that speeds up your heartbeat while inspiring you to sing along. Their lyrics are sharp, clever and informed. ... Lemonface has been playing sweat-drenched rock around town and attracting admiring press for four years."-- ARION BERGER, WASHINGTON POST EXPRESS
"These guys play and sing better than most bands in this town . ... Guitarist Richard Wynne growled and screamed with the kinda character that most singers I see could never manage, and bassist Dana Wilentz also showed that she had some serious pipes as well. ... And as if that weren't enough, Brendan McCusker attacked his kit with ferocity, not even hinting that he might ever drop a beat. ... Beautiful. And did I mention that they were totally charming? Because they were. ... They were really funny and remarkably comfortable on stage." -- GREG CETON, WASHINGTON CITY PAPER "SUCKOTASH"
"When the Who said the kids are alright, they hadn't seen LEMONFACE. 'Cause these kids are so much better than alright. And there's no telling how darn good they're gonna get." -- DAVE NUTTYCOMBE, WASHINGTON CITY PAPER "POP QUIZ"
"If you think the four song LEMONFACE Ep is awesome...and if you have any taste or musical knowledge, you do...then wait until you see them live. From the first note you will know that this is a band, that if there is any element of "WHAT SHOULD BE" in the musical universe, you WILL be hearing more form in the very near future. I first saw them at a Battle of the Bands and George Washington University, and they spun my head around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist (but in a good way)! The unassuming and charmingly modest threesome took the stage and launched into one of the most energetic, original and professional (while still being EXTREMELY punk) sets I've seen in quite a while. The new self titled LEMONFACE EP proves that this talented band and rocked out well beyond their years; power trio has the inspiration, talent and ability to be whatever they want to be! Key tracks on the EP? ALL OF THEM!" ---ANDY OCH, THE LOCAL LOWDOWN,WWW.WRYR.ORG
"So young, so angry -- love that rock music! Their power-pop taste and post-tween punkishness break through the stale sentiment of today's same-old. Long may they play.-- CHRIS CONNELLY, MTV/ABC
"I can't think of enough adjectives to describe the (Jammin' Java show) but suffice it to say that I woke up this morning still tapping my feet. Lemonface consists of three unbelievably talented punk/pop rockers. Well, damn. These guys ROCK. They write better lyrics than most of the bands in this area and they have pure fun, kick ass arrangements. Richard, the guitarist has a great voice and stage presence. He and Dana, the svelte, dark haired bass player, play up to the audience and each other with the comfort of pros who have been milking it on stage for a dozen years.-- Nikki Rouse, folk-rock songwriter/vocalist and nominee for three 2003 WAMMIE awards.
"Our newest discovery is Lemonface. Bloody brilliant! ... You need this! That girl can sing! We've just popped some of their stuff on the radio show and it rocks!" -- Mel Campbell, PureMachine internet radio
"While (Lemonface is) at least ten years younger than your average local band, they already have more obvious talent than your average local band." -- BIGYAWN.NET
"I can't remember when a group of songs was so catchy that all of them stuck in my head for days. ... The songs were cleverly worded, well-thought out and deeply insightful." -- JOANY NAZDIN, "REGIONAL REVIEWS," MUSIC MONTHLY MAGAZINE, MAY 2004
