BIO:
Licurgo is a Spanish band formed in September 2005 in Alicante. The band plays music with a good dose of misanthropy and includes a fusion of musical elements of different extreme genres. This leads to the creation of songs full of energy and darkness transmitting an implacable vehemence and that could be labelled as Old School Black Metal, that is black metal in the old style.

The name “Licurgo” (Lycurgus) reflects the spirit of the group and also involves a statement of intentions. The name was inspired by the legends of Ancient Greece: Licurgo was a famous thinker that provided the citizens of Sparta with a strict code of conduct in order to strengthen them so that they could effectively defend themselves from their enemies. These consuetudinary laws turned the small Sparta into a military power that took part in many heroic deeds. The band takes some of these Spartan ideas about collectivism and adds the individualist thinking of F.W. Nietzsche, the satanism of A.S. LaVey and the reflections of Aleister Crowley. In addition to this, the mentioned ideas are surrounded by an aura of misanthropy and fight against monotheistic religions, which have been brainwashing a big part of mankind, as well as a sense of exaltation for the rich Pagan Western past, together with a touch of magic and dark fantasy.

All the above mentioned principles are part of the band ideology, whose members find through music a perfect way of expressing all these interests.

Licurgo se formó en septiembre de 2.005 en Alicante (España) y practica música con buenas dosis de misantropía, que incluye una fusión de elementos musicales de diversos géneros extremos. Todo ello conduce a crear unos temas enérgicos invadidos por la oscuridad que transmiten una vehemencia implacable y que podríamos enmarcar dentro de la línea del Black Metal Old School, es decir Black Metal a la antigua usanza.

El nombre de Licurgo refleja el espíritu del grupo y es en sí mismo una declaración de intenciones. Dicho nombre ha sido tomado de la historia y las leyendas de la Antigua Grecia, ya que Licurgo fue el pensador que dio a Esparta y sus habitantes un código rígido de conducta, con el fin de fortalecer a la sociedad espartana para poder defenderse de sus enemigos. Tales leyes consuetudinarias convirtieron a la pequeña Esparta en toda una potencia militar de la época, viéndose envuelta en numerosos sucesos bélicos de carácter heroico.
El grupo capta algunas de estas ideas espartanas sobre la colectividad aderezándolas con el pensamiento individualista de F. W. Nietzsche, el satanismo de A. S. LaVey y las reflexiones de Aleister Crowley. Además son conjugadas con un aura de misantropía y de lucha contra las religiones monoteístas -que lavan el cerebro a buena parte de la humanidad- sin olvidar un sentimiento de exaltación por el rico pasado pagano de Occidente, y unos toques de magia y fantasía oscura.

Todo ello forma parte del ideario de la banda, que encuentra a través de su música una forma perfecta de expresar estas inquietudes.
