After piecing together bands for most of his adolescence, guitarist/vocalist Patrick Merrill finally found his niche in writing music. “I’ve grown up listening to so many different genres of music and the one thing I find within all my favorite bands is their ability to write about their lives and what affects them. Each song that I write is completely based on the philosophy of writing honest songs with no cover up.” In February of 2007 Life’s Great Tragedy was formed with the original intentions of being solely an acoustic side project. Shortly after writing “Back In Your Arms” Patrick brought along long time friend Kevin VandenBroeke to play bass on the songs that Patrick had already written and composed. Soon after debuting the band at Homebrew Coffee Co. in San Dimas, California, former Never A Chance band mate and long time friend, Brandon Popineau, was immediately inducted to the band to contribute his drumming to the songs. In mid February of 2007 Patrick and Kevin entered Co-Producer/Engineer Ben Eggehorn’s recording studio in Monrovia, California to track the one song that started it all, “Back In Your Arms”.
June 2nd, 2007 the band would once again enter Ben Eggehorn’s studio, this time to track four full band songs. These four songs along with the already recorded “Back In Your Arms” would be the defining songs for this small time band out of Glendora, California. The preceding weeks before the bands first show at The Roxy in Hollywood saw the induction of Life's Great Tragedy's second guitarist and fourth member Ryan Whalen. Whatevers next for these guys I'm sure they're up for the challenge.
