Louisa McBee has performed at New York and U.S. venues including: The Knitting Factory, The Bitter End, Tonic, Galapagos, Zebulon Cafe, The Bowery Poetry Club, The York Hilton and Towers, The Empress Ballroom,The Slipper Room, The Lions Den, The Tank Collective Unconscious and more! Born and raised in Manhattan, Louisa expressed a creative bent from her early years as a visual artist and musician. She grew up in a creative environment that included her father, world renown bassist Cecil McBee, and brother, guitar bassist Cecil McBee Jr. Louisa's mother, Lucia McBee, is an artist and writer and her brother, Cary Paul McBee is an entrepreneur. Louisa flourished in this artistic environment and brought her own exceptional creative talents to blossom. She trained in classical and jazz vocals starting at age 12. She graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in Studio Composition. Touring with The All City Choir accelerated her career with performances at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, as well as solo appearances for the National Teachers Conference. Influenced by an intriguing mix of Billie Holiday, Bjork and Mariah Carey, Louisa is one of New York's top pop vocalists and leading ladies of synthesis. The critically endangered New Zealand Fairy Tern, (Sterna nereis davisae), currently less than 40 birds, 10 breeding pairs.Early 1980's there were 4 breeding pairs.
This is the male of a successful breeding pair this season, at Pakiri Beach
Two fledglings born christmas eve, here at about 7 weeks old.
Conservation efforts include having wardens thru the breeding season at the 3 nesting sites, taping off of breeding areas, trapping preditors that eat the eggs [that are laid on the beach], and to educate beachgoers.
The two newest members of the Fairy Tern population flying in formation.
