Lightnin' Strikes has been playing southern fried red hot roadhouse rockin blues up and down the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and points beyond, for the past 6 years. The band released a cd in 2005- Black & White. 11 original tunes written by guitarist Mike Cunningham. John Gainey and Cunningham collaborated on the lyrics to one of the bands strongest songs- Breathe Again.
The band members have all had other careers and professions, but the first love is music. The bands version of the blues has been described as "rawboned blues." In 2007, the band were invited to travel to Helena, Arkansas (Home of Legendary King Biscuit Blues Show) to participate in the Sonny Boy Williamson Blues Society's Battle of The Bands. Bands from across the country came to compete for the chance to play at the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival (formerly known as The King Biscuit Blues Festivals-%^*$ lawyers). Lightnin' Strikes placed third in the competition and were invited to play on the Emerging Artist stage that same year. Cunningham is currently writing new material and will have the band up and performing again in the near future. If it is in the blood, it is in you, and you cannot be anyone but who you are and what you are. This is Lightnin' Strikes.
