brought a new day ushering in the Next Generation of Gospel Music through the musical talents of Birmingham Entertainment artist, LP. Like the apostle Paul who went against the grain of his contemporaries to forge a path of enlightenment, The Mississippi Gulf Coast native, LP is spearheading a new movement to illuminate, encourage, and empower the young in spirit with a sense of purpose with his debut release, “Testimony”! LP shares his life experiences, the challenges and the triumphs, missteps and step ups through his lyrically smooth rhymes, set against the backdrop of deep pounding base, and head bangin’ beats, blended with just the right mixture of smooth, laid back grooves to soothe any soul.
The lead single, “I Know A Place,” has crossed lines that have never been crossed, being played on many radio stations across the country that have never played rap before. This song makes way for high praise with its “back in the day” feeling. Set against the old school sound of the Staple Signers classic, “I’ll Take You There,” LP melodically tells all who hear that there’s a party going on and he knows it’s the place. One of the many highlights of the song “I Know A Place” is hitting the top 20 play list of Stellar Award winning station WMBM, in Miami, FL. His current single, ”We Can’t Lose” is a hit song that will be played for many years to come. The video for “We Can’t Lose”, being played on MTV, BET, THE WORD NETWORK, TBN, MUSIC CHOICE, and 18 other markets across the country. LP and the featured artist Joel, just recently performed the hit single “We Can’t Lose” on the Bobby Jones Show. “We can’t lose, with God on our side”, is but one of LP‘s messages to be found as he gives us his Testimony.
LP has been a presenter at the Annual 23rd Stellar Awards show and has made appearances at hundreds of other venues, including churches, conferences, youth events, clubs, and many other events. LP has shared the stage with artists like Shirley Caesar, Tye Tribbett & G. A., Smokey Norful, Micah Stampley, Israel and New Breed, David Mann a.k.a. L.P. (Jason McKay) was born on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He spent his childhood and adolescent years there and in New Orleans, Louisiana. Local New Orleans rappers such as influenced him; Mystikal, Partners n Crime, the Hot Boys, and the No Limit Soldiers. Approaching high school, L.P. encountered the death of his mother and many other life changing events. He was driven by this to live a lifestyle of alcohol and drugs, but he continued to keep interest in sports.
Athletics won him a ticket to further his education at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, were he now resides. He began to notice the downward spiral in his life. One night, a friend led him to the knowledge of Christ. L.P quickly began to focus on the word of God. His roommate was a rapper from N.Y.C. and his skills inspired L.P. to rap. Both being inspired by God, began to do Christian Hip Hop. With the inspiration, L.P. began to rap as a witnessing tool. He calls himself L.P. because he feels that he is “like Paul”, an apostle of Jesus Christ. Paul made a statement in the book of Romans, chapter 1 verse 16, “for I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ”, and he would spread the gospel and set order everywhere that he went. L.P. has come to spread the gospel and set order in the rap industry and everywhere that he goes.
