  • Books

.. ..The books in his personal library ranged from The Bible to "Charlottes Web and included works from James Whitcomb Riley, Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde.

    Popular books on James Dean:

James Dean by George Perry, which was published during 50th year anniversary. Contains unpublished photos of the actor from the family's private collection.

James Dean: Fifty Years Ago by Dennis Stock. Dennis Stock was famous for James Dean's B & W photos.

Surviving James Dean by William Bast. A beautifully written memoir, candid and definitive, that tells the story of Bast's five year relationship with the charismatic actor and American legend--James Dean.
    >
Boulevard of Broken Dreams: The life, Times, Legend of James Dean by Paul Alexander. This is a juicy biography that looks at the events that shaped Dean's (1931-1955) homosexuality.

James Dean: At Speed by Lee Raskin and Tom Morgan. This book provides a richly illustrated, precise account of Dean's life from his early childhood and his determination to succeed as an actor, to a minute-by-minute account of the events of September 30, 1955, and his untimely death.

James Dean: The Mutant King: A Biography by David Dalton. The only book to fully show how deliberately and carefully Dean crafted his own image and performances.

Dizzy & Jimmy: My life With James Dean: A Love Story by Dizzy Sheridan. Dizzy reveals her love affair with James Dean in a brief book replete with moony dialogue, prescient remarks about Dean's driving habits and a 1950s New York setting.

Rebel: The Life and Legend of James Dean by Donald Spoto.Spoto takes a clear-eyed dispassionate look at the legend of James Dean and discovers that his untimely death was probably his greatest career move of all.

Live Fast, Die Young: The Wild Ride of Making Rebel Without A Cause by Lawrence Frascella and Al Weisel. Definitely a book for hardcore Rebel fans. It counts every detail in the making of the movie, from behind-the-scenes conflict, feuds, and power plays between the actors.

The Death of James Dean by Warren Beath. Thirty-one years after James Dean's death, the hysteria continues. The thesis behind this book is that there may have been a cover-up in the investigation of the car crash that killed Dean. Furthermore, Beath believes the driver of the other car involved should have been charged in the accident. Offered in testimony are excerpts from the official inquest, an independent investigation of the day, and a few interviews.
