ALBUM REVIEWS
[Tastes Like Rock Music Magazine, America - Review of "Drain Me" album]
"Lilith's army launches a full force kick to your head with every note of Drain Me. The UK based trio keep their sonic assault strong with hard and heavy guitar riffs, pile-driving drums, and incredible rage fueled vocals! Lilith's Army delivers one hell of a great album, worthy of their moniker, in Drain Me. Frontwoman Sylvie Truman's growling vocals and heavy guitar pull you into the massive "fuck you" that the eight tracks, plus an acoustic cut of the title track, of Drain Me spell out.
Back all that up with a great rhythm section and you get one ballsy album, with a lot of punk attitude wrapped in garage metal, that TLR! highly recommends you check out! Drain Me is "Sweet Nitemare", "Sick of it All", "Drain Me", "Indecision", "Favorite Sin", "Fugue", "Get Out", "The Devil Within Me", and "Drain Me" acoustic. Recommended tracks are "Sick of it All", "Indecision", "The Devil Within Me", and the acoustic cut of "Drain Me".
[Zabadak Fanzine, France - Review of "Drain Me" album]
"LILITHS ARMY 'Drain Me' (CD) (31m02s) (2008) UK: The ghost of 25 Records lives on via Osmosis re-invention Liliths Army and one Sylvie Truman…and thanks for that (the first track I ever heard from Osmosis was now way back in 1998 on 'Ooer Missus' and was called 'Now I Can Fly'). This is Liliths Army's 3rd affair after 'Feel The Rage' (2005) and 'Possessed' (2006) and yes I like this CD which is again a blitzkrieg of grunge punk rock metal with even sometimes a hint of pop. At the time of reviewing the band were preparing to tour NYC in 2 weeks time with a current line up of Sylvie (guitar & vocals), Rob (drums), Jamie (bass), though the musicians on this here recording were Yan (bass) and John (drums). Their first two releases had other guys in Chris & Adam and so the rhythm section is quite a revolving or rotating affair. In any case it is essentially Sylvie with her lead vocal & guitar. Sylvie wrote all the tracks (they were recorded April 2008 at Fit Dog Studios in Northamptonshire) & are a collection of her own thoughts / feelings / experiences. 2nd track 'Sick Of It All' sounds like Eleanor Rigby…and come to think of it so does 3rd 'Drain Me'…which can't be bad.
There's an acoustic version of 'Drain Me' which shows that Sylvie's voice is strong enough to carry things. Please check out their website for info & photographs: www.myspace.com/lilithsarmy."
[Devolution Magazine issue 18 - Review of "Drain Me" album]
Long time readers will be aware that we have a weak spot for female-fronted rock here at devolution towers. We're not necessarily an easy bunch to please, and we're not for knee-jerk reactions, but theres something about spiky female vocal over a layer of guitars and rhythm that will make us sit up and pay attention. The reason for this meandering deviation from the point? Drain me is one such collection of songs, a handful of traditional hard rock enthems that will have your fingers tapping and head nodding in no time at all, without setting the world alight in process.
One for fans of love and .45 and thier ilk though there is very little levity to be found with liliths army, the gender of their vocalist incedental as opposed to a focal point.Anybody whos taste encompass the traditional melodic British rock sound will have a whale of a time with numbers such as 'sick of it all'.
[Bubblegum Slut Fanzine issue 31- Review of "Drain Me" album]
"Imagine if Kittie's Morgan Lander hadn't had a rich daddy and so really had some cause to scream and shout and so you're not far from the sound of snarling singer / growler Sylvie Truman and her grunge / metal influenced boy bandmates. The final acoustic reprise of the title track "Drain Me" shows they are not one trick pussy cats either".
[New Pollution Fanzine issue 16 - Review of "Drain Me" album]
"Sweet Nitemare has hooks waiting to catch you from the start. With raw, edgy guitars reminiscent of Nirvana. Liliths Army invite you into a dark world paved with heartbreak. Combine this with Sylvie's smokey vocals and rumbled bass lines, you've got an album oozing with dark grunge riffs a plenty".
[Bubblegum Slut Fanzine issue 22- Review of "Liliths Army" album]
"Post-riot girl, when a woman's place in heavy rock seems to be pouting up the front of styled Goth metal acts, Northampton's Liliths Army, led by grungey growler Sylvie Truman are a real raw shot of guitar fueled girl power. It's all a bit rough round the edges but you get the feeling that's kind of the point when Sylvie rasps out abuse for everything under the sun, ex-es in particular. Tact and grace are not Lilith's strong point as they hit with an abrasive mix of scuzzy punk and metal on numbers like 'Possessed' ("you're fucking possessed!" , runs the most poppy, hook-line bit) - expect to find no sugar and spice here".
[Dive Music Magazine - Review of "Feel The Rage" album]
Another great female fronted band, I have seen this band live but was pretty drunknow I regret my alcohol intake! This album is very well done, theres no fillers, each song is great and the music is so tight. This 10 track CD has some very good guitar riffs and powerful drumming, not to mention the voice of Sylvie. Theres some great screeching on the albums title track Feel The Rage. Overall, a heavy rock album, Im now looking forward to checking them out when Im sober!
**** (four stars)
LIVE GIG REVIEWS
[Stephen Hudyba live gig review: Surface Unsigned, Birmingham - March 2008]
"A strong heavy-rock sound; the band is fronted by excellent front woman Sylvie, she’s got a great voice that works well with their sound and beamed confidence and charisma onstage. At their best when going full-out, the band seems to have found a direction which works for them and should hopefully serve them well."
[Neon Promotions live gig review: the Hope & Anchor, London - February 2008]
"Liliths Army make a powerful start to the evening. Vocalist Sylvie's compelling, devilish voice is accompanied by rock solid bass and drums while her guitar produces hard, dark chordwork that has a grungy delivery and a dark angry tone. With Sylvie at the helm there's bound to be a riot grrrl influence in the mix, and such acts as L7, Babes in Toyland come to mind. There's not a duff song in the set - it's action packed stuff from start to finish. Excellent."
[Neon Promotions live gig review: the Hope & Anchor, London - 24th April 2007]
“Liliths Army take to the stage with their fiesty, grungy punked up vibe. A trio, with the female singer on guitar - working away very effectively puting in some good solid grunge chord work while delivering a great vocal. There’s plenty of Hole/L7 influences here too - with the songs being racause yet well crafted and highly effective. Drums put some spanking good fills in, bass is gutsy and dark. The small, ballsey singer even has time to pull a few good rock ‘n’ roll poses “Listen to this” she shouts as they finish off with an excellent improvised number. Cracking. “
