First time that LDM-Linea di Massa-Lion Dub Master sound system's heavy B-line warmed up the yard was during a session in the vaults of CSOA Forte Prenestino, Rome, in may 1999, playing alongside the roman veteran sound One Love Hi Powa; an event that celebrated the efforts of many months spent by the crew in the design and building process of the sound system itself.
The idea and, at the same time, the 'need' of giving birth to LDM soundsytem, besides being the result of the passion that quite obviously was moving the members of the crew, also came after realizing that the roman and italian reggae scene in general were lacking a real roots&dub soundsystem, a sound playing music backed by a strong and cultural message, at the same time committing itself to spread this kind of vibe without any compromise. Here's, in a few words, the idea, the identity, what was and still makes LDM sound different. Roots, reality and culture.
Without forgetting the foundational heritage, inspiration and contribution that Jamaica still today provides in reggae music, LDM sound is more focusing on the early and obscure JA Roots and most on the UK and European scene in terms of the musical and cultural style that offers, as well as the approach to conceive and arrange the session. Even today, what is commonly known as UK roots productions play a little part in most of italian sound system selections, and unfortunately it still seems like this music, maybe due to the massive use of digital devices, acts like a second choice if compared with the 'orthodox' reggae made in Jamaica. Since the beginning, LDM has been trying to subvert this common place, striving to give 'dignity' back to a style, dub music, that is often confined to the B side of the vinyls. This was also possible thanks to a promotional activity that leads in the LDM yard (Rome and Italy) people likes Julian Fairshare, Terry “Jah Trinity” Gad, King Shiloh, Jah Free, Vibronics, Cultural Warriors, WSP Robert Tribulation, the mighty prodigy of DUB Aba Shanti-I, the mighty Zulu Warrior Jah Shaka, Iration Steppas, Zion Train, Bush Chemist, Ras Muffet and the Mighty Tabot Sound System and singers like Kenny Knots, Dubdadda, Madu, Culture Freeman and Sista Mary.
In addition to the soundsystem sessions activity, LDM setup the “Ten Inch Promotion” agency (www.teninchpromotion.com) under which we promote artists and distribute uk label vynils. The LDM crew is also running an own recording studio, whose productions are regularly played during the sessions, alongside various exclusive dubplate mixes that contributes to further define LDM musical identity in the italian reggae scene.
2007 saw the born of the new indipendent LDM label named YARD EDUTAINMENT: first release is a 10" vynil with a roots tune mixed by Russ Disciples on the A side and a big bad instrumental dubwise for the AA side mixed by Steve Vibronics. All music and vocals from the LDM All Stars stable.
