Influences

BILLY JOEL
"The quality of the vocal, the soul and the shout in it, and the lyric still kills me, a simple turn of the phrase, but also his touch on the piano was big for me - he sinks his teeth in, pounds it out unabashedly, he taught me how to play the piano for the release of it."

CAROLE KING
"How can a song stick with you day in and day out? this woman is a master - my daughters can belt out every word of 'I Feel the Earth Move'"

SEAL
"I know it may seem inconsistent, but this voice still cuts me to the core - I just love his spirit and his sound."

MATT REDMAN
"Not striving for artist stardom and truly a minister in his heart, his lyrics embrace the complexities of faith in a unique way."

   About Lisa Lynne Mathis

Lisa Lynne Mathis is known for her rich, penetrating alto and soul-searching songs. She released her first full length solo album, Hancock Place (Garagista Music) in the spring of 2007 and showcased her new songs in an October concert at the Irvington Town Hall Theater (NY) with Grammy nominee Jay Azzolina (guitar) and Rolling Stones regular, Tim Ries (saxophone). Lisa Lynne opened for Grammy-winner Paula Cole at the Tarrytown Music Hall and performed live on New York’s WHUV.

Since her decision to follow her heart and pursue a career in music after graduating from Carnegie Mellon’s prestigious Music Theater program, Lisa Lynne has performed as a soloist and member of some of the finest music groups in the world, from Chicago’s elite vocal ensemble Bella Voce and the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, to backup for Liz Phair (whom she also coached) on Lillith Fair, Showtime Television, and David Letterman.

Lisa Lynne has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall with string orchestra, and with the world renowned Broadway Inspirational Voices in New York, she has performed on Broadway at Town Hall and the New Amsterdam Theatre for Barack Obama, on the Today Show with the cast of the movie Hairspray and for Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Carnegie Hall debut. This year, she will sing a special Easter event at the United Nations, for the Wendy Marx Foundation with Olympic athlete Carl Lewis in Washington, D.C., and for the closing ceremony of the US Transplant Games in Pittsburgh. Lisa Lynne Mathis lives in Irvington, NY with her husband and two daughters.

LISA BELKIN, THE NEW YORK TIMES

"Listening to Hancock Place is like listening to Lisa Lynne read my mind and put it to music. It’s a soundtrack for every harried woman’s life, a best girlfriend telling you it will all be okay. I dont know how she crawled into my head and saw what I’ve been thinking, but she has, and she is most welcome there, because her album is both affirmation and antidote to the stress and worries of the day. And she manages to do it with such grace and warmth that I dont even resent that she’s so maddeningly gorgeous."

LIZ PHAIR
"Lisa and I met when we were both new mothers in Chicago and it was basically she who taught me to love singing! Her confidence and faith have never come across more clearly than in this new cd and I hope her thoughtful and soul-searching journey is as inspiring to you as it is to me.Those of us who love her have been waiting a long time for this, so enjoy!"

REV. DR. JAMES. A. FORBES
“Lisa’s music will touch your heart and awaken your passion for faith that makes a difference in the world.”

Hey Lisa Lynne Mathis,
Thanks for the friendship! How are things in New York? It's finally Summer here in Milwaukee as the earth has completed its seasonal shift on its axis.
I saw you were a friend of Deepak Chopra's, so I thought you might be interested in a new healthy Ayurvedic beverage and ground floor home-based business he's endorsing called Zrii, which features the healing Amalaki fruit from the Himalayas. I hope this finds you well. Have a great week!
Wishing you peace, love, and prosperity,

Actually that's my first grandchild. My grandson will be a year old in 13 days. The second grandchild is due in June. Probably another boy. Very fitting after having 4 daughters, talk about a challenge. He is my sunshine. Thank you.

Hey Lisa, stopping by to wish you Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!

Thanks again for your interest and support, will have more student essays and projects to share in '08.

Couldn’t afford to get a gift for all my friends on MySpace, so I’m sharing Francis E.W. Harper’s “Songs for the People” …

LET me make the songs for the people,
Songs for the old and young;
Songs to stir like a battle-cry
Wherever they are sung.

Not for the clashing of sabres,
For carnage nor for strife;
But songs to thrill the hearts of men
With more abundant life.

Let me make the songs for the weary,
Amid life's fever and fret,
Till hearts shall relax their tension,
And careworn brows forget.

Let me sing for little children,
Before their footsteps stray,
Sweet anthems of love and duty,
To float o'er life's highway.

I would sing for the poor and aged,
When shadows dim their sight;
Of the bright and restful mansions,
Where there shall be no night.

Our world, so warn and weary,
Needs music, pure and strong,
To hush the jangle and discords
Of sorrow, pain, and wrong.

Music to soothe all its sorrow,
Till war and crime shall cease;
And the hearts of men grown tender
Girdle the world with peace.
Mark
