Sounds Like

East-West sound. I like being in the intersection of different styles and cultures. I look for originality and sincere and coherent emotional expression. All the music I'm attracted to has a strong spiritual energy.

Music is my religion. It is also a language unto itself and an amazing vehicle of communication.

Music is a healing art--a meditational and transformational tool. Music takes us deep into our ancestry--in the beginning there was sound. We hear sound from the womb before we are born and it is the last sense to go when we die.

   About Lisa Sangita Moskow

LISA SANGITA MOSKOW

"Using her years of classical training on the sarod as a foundation, Lisa Moskow takes the North Indian 25-string lute into original byways of her musical imagination, constantly inventing new contexts for the unique sliding, bending, droning tones that sing from her instrument. Brilliant recent recordings include collaborations with sound sculptor Robert Rich (Yearning) and flutist/clarinetist Hermann Buhler and percussionist Geoffrey Gordon (Sojourn)." --Derk Richardson SF Bay Guardian

Composer/sarod player Lisa Sangita Moskow has gained international recognition for her innovative work with the sarod, a 25-stringed lute from North India. She has spent the last 28 years creating original compositions and unusual ensembles for this instrument, and has performed extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, and the U.S. West Coast.

From one friend of Howard Zinn to another — thanks for adding me. ¶ People hear only what they want, so facts alone won't wake them; they need inspiration too. ¶ This world's evils have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, & murderers — whether in market, government, or elsewhere — believe we're all separate, motivated only by self-interest, by greed & fear. They want us to share that belief; they use it to justify themselves & to discourage us from uniting. They use it to shape the world's political & economic systems that perpetuate war & poverty. Their real power comes not so much from secret conspiracies as from propaganda that we all hear every day & that we hardly notice, implicit in the background assumptions of television & newspapers. ¶ But you & I have found a better light inside ourselves & our friends. It's in everyone, if we can just wake them; we're all one flesh & blood. Let's spread that vision, for until we do our other advances will be minor & temporary. Peace and communication are one subject, not two, and no one will understand that subject perfectly until we all do. ¶ The outcome of the ideological struggle is not yet determined, so no one can afford to be just a spectator. Join the movement, if you haven't already: get involved in whatever way feels right for you. We must all learn from one another; each of us knows only part of the song. Question authority. Keep fighting, loving, hoping, singing. Hand in hand, we may still be able to heal this world. ¶ The flag of the USA, once a symbol of democracy & freedom, has now come to stand for plutocracy, consumerism, & imperialism. Here in the USA, small flags are being sold in grocery stores, in anticipation of July 4. I bought one to wear upside down ¶ Peace, love, hope, & revolution. More details on my web page.
