DJ Tendraw and The Gypsies Dog	Sep 25 2008 6:53 AM As part of the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, a series of events running up to the start of the 2012 games; DJ Tendraw and The Gypsies Dog along with the Kinetica Gallery present BICYCLE POWERED AUDIO TAPE ATHLETICS 2008 4 pro-road bikes secured onto turbo-trainer rolling roads are wired directly to the drive system of four cassette decks, which in turn are connected to their own amplification systems. To put it simply the faster you pedal the faster the music plays. Featuring ‘Sprint’, ‘Endurance’, ‘Team’ and ‘Freestyle’ event categories, with open entry for those wishing to take part. Competitors will not only race to finish the same ‘track’ but will create re-mixes and new compositions using a set of limited edition tapes specially prepared for this event by DJ Tendraw and The Gypsies Dog. You can even bring your own tape! Moving between static moods and beat-waves, from reflective abstraction to moments of searing intensity, this record is the result of improvisations using hardware synths and samplers. Ben is one half of Rocket Number 9 with his brother Tom and their innovative improvised sets have been making an impact on the London scene since they formed in March 2006. He is also a member of Rothko, who have recently released a new album "A Life Lived Elsewhere" on Mark Beazley’s Trace Recordings label. Ben previously released a solo album "Drawn to Light", recorded as Maps of the Heart, on Unlabel in January 2006. It's only when you get to the end that it all makes sense is the first release of Front and Follow, an emerging Manchester based record label all about new, exciting music, released in limited editions with packaging by the wonderful people at Pika Pika. They aim to release records that are special, lovingly made and not a) cheap and crappy or b) expensive and elitist.
