Il débute sa carrière artistique en 1980 en faisant ses classes dans les différents sounds systems new yorkais tels que Downbeat the Ruler ou African love. En 1984, il obtient un 1er hit en reprenant la chanson de Michael Jackson "Billy Jean" avec Steelie & Cleevie. En 1988 , il est signé par le label Elektra records sur lequel il sort son 1er album Unity. Début 90, son 2ème album "The real rock" intègre du hip hop au reggae créant un style qui sera repris pas des artistes comme Shabba Ranks ou Shaggy. En 92, le célèbre single "Jamaïcan in New York" reprise de "Englishman in NY" de Sting connait un succés international. Musicalement, Shinehead développe un style tout terrain, il peut toaster, rapper ou chanter sur n’importe quelle version.
