Lotus Project began as nothing more than a suggestion to drummer and vocalist Christopher Bedell and guitarist and friend Patrick Ward: "hey Pat, you and Chris should start a Sepultura cover band" ..."dude, you wanna??" What was quickly discovered is that there was much more capability and chemistry than said cover band should restrict themselves to. The intent of the sound which would evolve was based solely on the desire to create a hybrid of their favorite bands for their own listening pleasure. The irony of this mission was in that trying to sound like something specific; the result was something entirely new to both of them. This led to the realization that the process of writing and improving must continue. This process was not without hindrance beyond the control of its members; but despite these obstacles, the steel continued to temper. Chris and Pat began writing with a “song-oriented” methodology: repeating hooks with various polyrhythmic and progressive parts entwined throughout, with most of the songs drenched in melodic soundscapes; all of which is contained within an extremely heavy but very listenable form of modern metal. With goals of presenting this music to a broader however metal attuned audience, it was decided that additional members were required to formulate and reproduce this sound in a tangible and aggressive manner. Thus the inception of what is now a bludgeoning quartet of destructive metal onslaught. What resulted was even more astounding than before. The combined elements of the previously-lacking, fast and determined low end of bassist David Ryglicki and the trained ear of guitarist and pianist Norikiyo Ueno provided the layers and talent that would turn a good idea into a fully functioning entity. The framework that had been constructed through extensive analysis and calculation was now able to manifest a physicality imbued with extreme heaviness in tonality and arrangement, technical prowess of both instrument and mind, and melody to entrap and speak on behalf of a soul that needs to be heard…
