Aliza Grant aka LSA is a musician with many talents. She can create with keyboards and guitar and is an exceptional programmer and engineer. Imagine Missy Elliot being kidnapped by Bjork and rescued by Portishead. This is the best way to describe LSA and her music. Her nick name, LSA stands for Life’s Sole Apprentice; it was given to her by a band mate and long time friend Eleven. Because she is always learning new music styles and bridging the gap between drum and bass, hip-hop and pop. Music first inspired this San Francisco native’s life and took root as an intense passion for hip hop. Growing up in the hip hop culture instilled a fierce love for self expression in LSA.
In 1999, she co-founded the group Children of the Fog with long time friend Eleven. LSA’s contribution to the group is as a producer and songwriter. Her drive eventually led her to develop the creative skills to co-write arrange, and produce Children of the Fog’s August 2001 debut album “Don’t Quit Your Day Job”. The bands first single “Altitude Sickness” was chosen by independent label Fortune Records as a feature track on their west coast compilation titled “Fortune Cookies”.
Being in a band helped her grow and develop her songwriter and production skills. It seemed a natural progression after spending several years producing hip-hop that she forges new ground and experiment with other styles of music. In 2003 she released her solo debut EP “Underwater Blues” on her own record label IllEllements Records. The disc contains trip-hop and drum and bass. Some of the songs have been compared to Squarepusher and Aphex Twin.
Currently LSA is getting ready to release a full length album “Bitz and Pieces”. This album will showcase a wide variety of instrumental tracks demonstrating the diverse nature of her artistry.
