Tom Luce began writing songs in his bedroom in the foggy Richmond District of San Francisco. But it wasn't long before his self titled first CD gained immediate attention on Bay Area radio stations such as San Francisco’s KFOG. The album's single, “Good Day” was soon picked up in Hollywood and appeared in movies such as How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and 13 Going On 30, and on television shows like The O.C. and Alias. In 2003, Luce earned the California Music Award for “Outstanding Debut Album.” In order to continue promoting the album the band fervently toured the US playing alongside bands like Sixpence, None The Richer and Goo Goo Dolls.
When they returned home Tom began writing and working on his next endeavor, LUCE’s sophomore album. In the early spring of 2005, Neverending was unveiled to a packed CD release filled with eager fans. Fans welcomed the band’s follow-up album with open arms and plenty of excitement, as well as Hollywood once again. Neverending’s first single, “Buy A Dog” found its way onto the USA Network’s Psych and the silver screen’s “Frank, The Dog.” In the fall of 2007, LUCE was awarded “Best Band You Should Know About” by San Francisco Magazine readers.
Success was in the bag for LUCE, but then, in the spring of 2006, Tom’s home caught fire, and destroyed most of his belongings. Despite the setback, the band went back on the road the next week only to be challenged once again when the van and trailer were stolen from their hotel parking lot one night in Philadelphia. Tom writes “I remember being awakened by a flash of lighting at 7am in my hotel room. It was like a huge exclamation point crashing to the ground and punctuating the fact that our van and trailer had just been stolen.”
All of the band’s gear was in the trailer. Says Tom,“I found myself standing outside my hotel room in my sweats, staring at the empty parking spot where we had parked the van and trailer. It was gone! And so were all of our guitars, drums, pedals, keyboards, etc. Unbelievable, I thought. After about an hour and a half of talking with the police I decided to do what most people would do in my position: I just quit.” And so, it seemed, that LUCE would be no more. That is, until Tom realized, “I couldn’t give it all up. Music is my life, my dream. It’s what I do best. So I turned around and started the long journey of bringing everything back around.”
Then in 2007, LUCE was awarded “Best Band You Should Know About” by San Francisco Magazine readers. In 2008, LUCE attracted the attention of an exciting new Bay Area based record label, Opus Music Ventures, and at the top of this year, became one of it’s first signing bands. With the powerful force of the young energetic label, LUCE now has full service publicity, management, a tour support team and is about to release their much anticipated third album, Corner of the World, this Spring. It is sure to take the band to new and soaring heights. “The release of this CD for LUCE is more than just a CD release. It is our new beginning. It is our recovery, our answer, our own lightning bolt. None of this would have been possible without the help of our fans, family, friends and business partners. This CD is for all of us. It is the only way we know to give you all something to show how grateful we are. This CD is for you. Thank you.”
