Singer, songwriter & founding member of LUKAS, Luke Munns, was born in the Northern Beaches of Australia.
With a history as the worldwide influential touring & recording drummer for Hillsong UNITED playing stadiums alongside international acts such as Toby Mac, Michael W. Smith, Delirious & winning Channel [V]’s ‘Legup competition’ under his belt, Luke locked himself away for many months & recorded his new songs to find an overwhelming response of over 400,000 downloads; solely based on the reputation of the music. ‘Munns is clearly a talented lad’ - DRUM MEDIA.
Already the LUKAS boys have spectacularly opened Hillsong Conference with a 100+ piece orchestra in Sydney’s Acer Arena, played live on MTV, mainstaged Parachute Festival, NZ & Blackstump Festival, plus played alongside acts such as MXPX, Project 86, Switchfoot, Antiskeptic, Angela’s Dish, The Getaway Plan, Guy Sebastian & a sold out tour with seven times platinum singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser. Their ‘mesmerising, rich, well crafted (Andrew Morris, FRESH RADIO)’ tunes are high rotation favourites on FM103.2.
There comes a time when fears must be faced, sacrifices made, choices stated, & faith put into action, & for LUKAS, that’s what the new ‘YOU & ME EP’ stands for.
LUKAS is a band that perseveres with passion, prayer, energy & focus on connecting with the lost & broken with the love & hope of Christ. Loads of bands set out on this journey, but how many commit themselves to fulfilling all the intents & purposes of their hearts? “We’re living out our band like a 747 taking off...”
Single, ‘Feels Like Home’, with its honest sincerity, is a song about having a dream & believing in it – “The claustrophobia of being boxed in & wanting to break out,” as Luke puts it.
“Luke has become one of the best songwriters I know.” says producer Brendan Anthony (who has recorded such diverse bands as INXS, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, George, Able & Brianna Carpenter (Australian Idol). “…This is one the best records I have produced in my entire career.”
After speaking to Luke you can instantly see how passionate he is about his music. Brendan says, “We tracked half the record, then he flew to New Zealand for Parachute Festival, then straight to Atlanta, USA for two days to record guitars with Michael Guy Chislett (The Academy is, Butch Walker, Hillsong UNITED), then flew back to Australia, drove straight for 12 hours & recorded vocals in my studio for 3 days.”
LUKAS was ranked in the top six unsigned bands in all of Australia by 11 music industry judges in the NOKIA Be Heard competition.
The boys are planning to record their debut album in collaboration with ARIA award winning engineer Anton Hagop (Silverchair, Powderfinger, The Dissociatives, Missy Higgins, Natalie Imbruglia). “Many new songs are being crafted & there is exciting talk of recording in early ’09”, says Munns.
