Eva Hopkins's Interests
|
| General | I love to cook, dance, read, sing, go to the movies & do decor stuff, as well as the obvious writing & drawing. I also dig board games like Rummikube, Scrabble and Othello. | | Music | A sampling from my iTunes: Peter Gabriel, NIN, Siouxsie, Depeche Mode, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, the Pixies, Imogene Heap, Joan Jett, Ladytron, Thievery Corporation, Basement Jaxx, Poe, Portishead, the Cure, George Winston, Massive Attack, Skunk Anansie, Sex Pistols, Hedningarna, Fiona Apple, the Beatles, Salt-n-Pepa, Jill Sobule, Queen Latifah, Air, Curve, Alpinestars, Apoptygma Bezerk, Beck, Beth Orton, Placebo, Jean-Michael Jarre, Daft Punk, Electronic, Yaz, VAS, Vangelis, Mazzy Star, the Cars, Prince, Black Flag, Lamb, Kraftwerk, Goldfrapp, Garbage, Moby, Eric Johnson, Stanley Jordan, Enigma, AC/DC, the Donnas, the Ramones, Duran Duran, Janis Joplin, Billie Holliday, Vanessa Mae, Sneaker Pimps, Mozart, Pet Shop Boys, Suzanne Vega, Joe Jackson, David Bowie, Sarah McLachlan, the Pretenders, Lou Reed, the Killers, Led Zeppelin, Dinah Washington, Gabrielle Roth & the Mirrors...& sometimes Enya, when I have trouble sleeping. If you have new music you want me to check out, LMK. I am always up for hearing something new, regardless of genre.
| | Movies | Run Lola Run, Borat, Election, To Die For, Fight Club, Blue Velvet, Fire, Lost in Translation, A Fish Called Wanda, Bad Education, The Lives of Others, Secretary, Young Frankenstein, LOTR (3-disc extended version), Some Like It Hot, Brazil, Crumb, Hairspray, Serial Mom, Pecker, A Clockwork Orange, Revenger's Tragedy, Sid & Nancy, Pan's Labyrinth, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, I Shot Andy Warhol, The Last Unicorn, Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Trekkies, Star Wars (the original 3 only), SLC Punk, Amelie, Courching Tiger Hidden Dragon, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cabaret, The Godfather movies (first 2 only), Apocalypse Now, Five Easy Pieces, Amadeus, Nosferatu, Queen Margot, Dangerous Liasions, Chicago, Spinal Tap, Dr. Strangelove, the Incredibles & Into the Woods (w/ Bernadette Peters). | | Television | I don't watch current TV, ie, it's not plugged in. But lest you all think I'm a total snob, there are shows I like: The Simpsons, the Dave Chapelle show, Futurama, the Looney Toons golden box sets, Freaks & Geeks, The Office (BBC version), Ab Fab, Six Feet Under, Rome, Sex in the City, Downtown, Megas XLR, Cheers, Wonderfalls. Sometimes I'll catch an episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Project Runway, or the excellent Cash Cab. My dad & I used to watch Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune when I was growing up. | | Books | A few of my favorite authors are Dorothy Parker, Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, & Oscar Wilde. I enjoy biographies & historial fiction. Once in a great rare while I get the urge to read some fantasy fiction, like the works of Mercedes Lackey or Anne McCaffrey. I do read lots of books without pictures, but the ones that give me the most pleasure are usually graphic novels. Maxwell Strangewell (the Fillbäch Brothers), Artesia (Mark Smylie), all the Doonesbury collections, Strangers in Paradise (Terry Moore), Story Hour & Joy Ride (Carol Lay), Kabuki (David Mack), Stuck Rubber Baby (Howard Cruse), Fun Home (Allison Bechdel), Owly (Andy Runton), Mouse Guard (David Petersen), Omaha the Cat Dancer (Reed Waller & Kate Worley), Pogo: We Have Met the Enemy & He is Us (Walt Kelly). I'll check out pretty much anything by Marjane Satrapi, the Fillbäch Brothers, Ellen Forney, Mary Fleener, Ted Nafieh, the Bros. Hernandez, Stan Sakai, Mike Mignola, Danielle Corsetto & that Linsner guy does pretty good work, too. The art books of Aubrey Beardsley, Maxfield Parrish & Jeffrey Jones leave me feeling both exhilerated & intimidated. | | Heroes | My dear ol' dad was my hero. I was lucky to have known him. Anyone who lives their life trying to walk their talk has my respect.

About me:
About me: If it ain't about doin' th' comics, I usually don't have time for it. It doesn't mean I don't want to do other things, but as I was told by Adam Hughes many years ago, if I got serious about comics, I'll have no life. Oh Adam, how incredibly true that was, & is.

Who I'd like to meet:
Other artsy/writin'/music folks, or people who are creative in any way - cooking, dancing, you name it. If you walk to the beat of a slightly different drum, then likely we'd have good conversation. Intelligent, open-minded folks of all persuasions preferred.
