Lyrickz is a Detroit-born lyricist who's been raised in the in deep-south of jackson, MS. Being so, he brings a hybrid-style of sorts, mixing a typically east-coast style flow with heavy southern tracks and flavor.
Joey Powell aka Lyrickz, was first introduced to the art of rapppin when witnessing one of his cousin's impromptu freestyle sessions when he was 13 years of age. At the time, Lyrickz was deeply involved in poetry, and saw that rap was simply a different form of poetry. After some experimentation, he saw that he was actually exceptional when it came to gettin his points across in words.
Through word-of-mouth and aggresive marketing tactics, Lyrickz messages are being heard throughout the country. Through steadfastness, ingenuity, and sheer will, he is forging his own path in a over-saturated industry.
His goal is to bring something else to hip-hop in general besides the run-of-the-mill material heard 24/7 on the radio waves. He longs for the lyricism that characterized hip-hop long ago. Aggrivated with his state's not-so-flattering reputation, he seeks to bring more respect and acknoweldment to its citizens and artists.
