Mael Mórdha was formed in January 1998 and has undergone an arduous journey from obscurity, to the forefront of the Irish Metal scene since then. The band play a truly unique style of metal which has been heavily influenced by Irish laments and imagery to create what they call Ceol Breatha Gaedhealach ‘Gaelic Doom Metal’.
Success for the band came very slowly, in part due to the many personnel changes that plagued the band, particularly in its earlier years. However, as the line-up settled, the welfare of the band also improved. As a result, a wealth of material was written and recorded, many concerts were played the length and breadth of Ireland, and finally, the band was offered a four album deal by German Label, Grau Records in 2005.
