   About Magicfolk

PSYCHEDELIC, FOLK, PROG-ROCK, ESOTERIC / PAGAN, AMBIENT

“Passionate, fresh and vital” (DARKROOM MAGAZINE)

Magicfolk began in 2003 as a quiet, well-behaved acoustic trio. In the years following, they became increasingly rambunctious and erratic with the addition of bass, drums, lead guitar and lots of synths.

"A compelling mix of quality female vocals, keyboards, flute, acoustic and electric guitars.” (CLASSIC ROCK SOCIETY)

Now a leading UK psych-folk band, Magicfolk produces its own fusion of rock, folk, celtic and prog-rock with rich vocal harmonies, in songs with mythological and mystic leanings.

“Genuinely something new for fans of esoteric folk, their lyrics sing of folklore and magic, evoking the mystery within the music" (WOVEN WHEAT WHISPERS)

Their material touches upon a whole range of esoteric inspirations, including those found in Egyptian, Greek, Celtic, Hermetic, Shamanic, Wiccan, Pagan and other traditions.

“Hugely evocative” (FIREWORKS MAGAZINE)

Early influences for founders Ben and Michelle include the likes of ‘70s legends Jethro Tull, Jefferson Airplane, David Bowie, Dead Can Dance.

“Constantly inventive, exquisite, daring, a new sound” (WOVEN WHEAT WHISPERS)

And they've welcomed additional influences from all the musicians they've worked with, from psychedelic and rock lead guitar lines in the style of Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, the folk & jazz touches that sax & flute bring, to Greek zembekigo patterns and South American drum rhythms.

"Prog rock, celtic tunes and tight vocal harmony, spiked with prickly electric guitar. If you like Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull and Jefferson Airplane, you won't be disappointed.” (PAGAN DAWN MAGAZINE)

"Delicately spun, visiting the perfumed garden of 60s psychedelia." (ROCK ‘N’ REEL MAGAZINE)

Grounded in acoustic instrumentation, their songs often develop into raucous rock, jazz and psychedelic improvisations. They also have gentle songs which take you to other more restful places.

“Original, well played, very well produced, an excellent debut” (TERRASCOPE)

In 2007 Magicfolk launched their debut album which is available direct from their website (see SHOP page) - or from iTunes, CD Baby, or Amazon.

They've now started work on the second album this autumn 08, due for release in autumn 09, an album which may well be slightly more deranged and psychedelic than usual...

“Beautiful and chilling, haunting, sweet and dusty” (Sea of Tranquility Magazine)

Ability is what you're capable of doing, motivation determines what you do, and attitude determines how well you do it.
Success is not permanent. The same is also true of failure
We are never alone in this world, for we are all connected by heartstrings and hope.
Hoping you have a terrific week, love Eirinnxxxx

Huge Pre-Stonehenge Complex Found via "Crop Circles"
James Owen in London
for National Geographic News
June 15, 2009
Given away by strange, crop circle-like formations seen from the air, a huge prehistoric ceremonial complex discovered in southern England has taken archaeologists by surprise.

A thousand years older than nearby Stonehenge, the site includes the remains of wooden temples and two massive, 6,000-year-old tombs that are among "Britain's first architecture," according to archaeologist Helen Wickstead, leader of the Damerham Archaeology Project.

For such a site to have lain hidden for so long is "completely amazing," said Wickstead, of Kingston University in London.

Archaeologist Joshua Pollard, who was not involved in the find, agreed. The discovery is "remarkable," he said, given the decades of intense archaeological attention to the greater Stonehenge region.

"I think everybody assumed such monument complexes were known about or had already been discovered," added Pollard, a co-leader of the Stonehenge Riverside Project, which is funded in part by the National Geographic Society. (The National Geographic Society owns National Geographic News.)

For I am the soul of nature
that gives life to the universe.
From me all things proceed and unto me
they must return.
Let My worship be in the
heart that rejoices, for behold,
all acts of love and pleasure
are My rituals.

Let there be beauty and strength,
power and compassion,
honor and humility,
mirth and reverence within you.
And you who seek to know me,
know that the seeking and yearning
will avail you not,
unless you know the Mystery:
for if that which you seek,
you find not within yourself,
you will never find it without.
