MALASTRANA creates music that is difficult to define by one category. This solo project was founded as a creative outlet for Martin, a former international development worker and current municipal economic forecaster. The first independent release was "Manipulate Your Mind" in 2007, an album of progressive ambient thrash metal with growling vocals. From here, Martin expanded the sound, creating the melodic vocal progressive/rock/metal/ambient fusion of 2010's "Chameleon". Martin enlisted good friend and producer/musician/programmer extraordinaire Shane McFee (Backmask) to contribute drum tracks for two songs and assist in crafting the "Chameleon" sound. Also contributing a blistering and dramatic guitar solo for one track was friend M.D. Ringler (played in several San Francisco bay area bands). MALASTRANA continues to evolve and grow, confronting fan expectations with each studio release. Chameleon features 11 songs of introspection characterized by plenty of light and shade, and comprising the entire spectrum of human emotion. Ambient synthesizer, powerful guitar work that is both bluesy emotion and technical accuracy, bass rythmns that make you want to dance, and drums that go from machine guns to disco. The vocals are clean and melodic, with catchy phrases and memorable hooks. This album is a milestone of musical growth for Malastrana.
