this page is intended as a tiny homage to the man from delmonte ... it is written from the
perspective of someone now TWICE the age they were when they
were going to see this band looking back in a fond (if slightly besumed) way ...
it is very much a work in progress! if anyone has any pics or ephemera they want to share, please get in touch! (i for one never got to hear "my prince will come" or "bachelor flat affair" ... hint-hint!)
the man from delmonte existed between (roughly) 1986 & 1991 ... for a group of us, they were the band that got away ... there were various points when their gigs were as well attended as anyone else's in manchester ...
there is hardly ANYTHING about them on the net ... why is that?! when everyone else was taking themselves too seriously, the delmontes were about fun ... perhaps the jaunty music just didnt fit with the spliffs? perhaps the occasionally camp lyrics were too much for lad culture? (even morrissey wasnt doing much of that around the time) ...
if anyone is offended that i have taken the liberty of uploading some
of their tunes, please let me know and i will remove them forthwith.
they are obviously NOT downloadable and my only intention is to
remember a band i loved and to promote them in an admittedly minute way ...
p.s. i'm in new york for the first week in april, doing... ** 7 shows, ** some in-store stuff (incl. looney tunes), ** a couple of radio's, and ** a cable telly thingy.
** oh yes,.. and i'll be "saving coney island" too. that's verr good. !!!
p.p.p.s. did you see 'me'(!!??) on "shameless" last night, along with mozzer and shaun and mick hucknall ???? well it''l be on channel 4 next tuesday at 10pm.
