   About Manifesta
Manifesta is a collective of ladies, grrrls, gentlemen, women, bois, and queers based in Leeds, UK, established in 2002. Manifesta aims to create supportive spaces for the self-expression of people of all genders and sexualities through art, music and culture. We seek to challenge sexist, homophobic, and transphobic attitudes through the DIY organisation and promotion of inclusive music events.

Responsible for the club night Suck My Left One held at the Commonplace every fourth Friday of the month, and many gigs and all-dayers which have included national and international acts such as The Gossip, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Scream Club, Sky Larkin, Jean Genet, The Long Blondes, The Priscillas, Blood Red Shoes, Wet Dog, Partyline, Gravy Train!!!! and Spider and the Webs. We were also involved in Ladyfest Leeds 2007 and our own previous club nights Pussy Whipped and Razzmatazz. We've hosted a film night (another is planned), a tea dance, and we're always up for trying out new ideas, such as our mum & baby-friendly Kimya Dawson gig in June 07 (get in touch if you want to help put on kid-friendly music events in future)... What else? We've got a collective zine called Reassess Your Weapons, now on its 8th issue (see calls for submissions in our comments for more details) and our own zine and crafts distro. Take a look at our website too.

Manifesta is a big supporter of queer/feminist performers and acts and encourages such bands to submit demos and join our network. We don't put on boring straight white male guitar bands though.

Future projects and dreams include starting a record label, providing hands-on music workshops, performance cafes, and hosting even bigger and better events.

BANDS PLEASE READ THIS!!!
If you're a friendly queer/feminist diy band that wants to play in leeds (UK) please email us at booking at manifesta.co.uk and we'll see what we can do

Our annual report

Our Constitution

If getting yr hands dirty with all of this sounds like yr cup of tea, see "Wanna join in?" in our blog, above.

NEXT MEETING:

7pm Sunday 6th July 2008 @ The Commonplace, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds, LS2 7EQ. Everyone welcome. These meetings are where we get together to organise all the events. Come down if you want to get involved, help us out or get support to put on your own DIY events.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

After the last amazing Suck My Left One which was almost officially the best night ever we are having another! It's our un-hip DIY queer feminist club night for all genders, persuasions, shapes and sizes, playing pop, punk, rock, indie-pop, beats, electro-pop, cut and paste flop, queercore, riot grrrl... Currently Sweden's hottest export, THOSE DANCING DAYS combine "Sweet as apple-pie pop" with a devilishly sassy Northern Soul and it's this unique combination that has the got the whole of the UK falling over itself and for good reason too!

The subtle dynamics in their songwriting of JOHN and JEHN and the balance between chaos and beauty and the mastery of heartbreaking melodies Expect beautifully skewed hymns in the key of Serge Gainsbourg.

Wakefield's THE RESEARCH are makers of fun, but also write songs that are like punches in the stomach that knock the wind out of you but afterwards you agree that you feel much better for it.

PANTHER - 7 HERTZ - TIGERS! @ PACKHORSE - THURS MAY 1st

Panther

Charlie is Panther, and Panther is some mutant form of Charlie. Having recently supported The Gossip, Panther’s music is hard match of damaged soul, falsetto disco and broken synth fueled freakouts which is as addictive as it is challenging. This solo affair of Charlie Salas-Humara isn’t easily ignored for his unpredictable and energetic performances tainted with throbbing bass, minimalistic hooks and jittery dance routines. Panther’s influences run deep and take as much from Pop and R&B as Free Jazz and Punk.

7Hertz

Fluid and engaging, 7 Hertz fluctuate and mutate live before your very ears. incorporating all or none of the following instruments - basson, violin, voice, double bass, french horn, glockenspiel, clarinet, mandolin, trumpet - they improvise glorious pieces with total, beautiful spontaneity.
http://www. myspace. com/the7hertzband

Tigers!

Tigers! - either the worlds most criminally underated band or a total pile of dog-shite depending on who you talk too. TIGERS! we're kicking ass when PANTHER we're completing the american version of the KEY STAGE ONE exam! TIGERS! have played with almost every good band on earth including COUGHS, KIT, THE LOCUST, EATS TAPES, FELIX KUBIN, WOLVES...ETC! TIGERS! are not funky! Thats just bullshit talk to encourage people to get into PRINCE! TIGERS! will kick your dick clean off regardless of whether you have one or not.

to paraphrase m.j. fox '....maybe you guys aren't ready for this yet.....but your kids are gonna lo
