Man Plus Building is the result of a few highly ironic lessons learned. Like most bands, Jesse Kees, Joshua Nee, Rory Ventress, and Mitch Wells all grew up in the same Louisiana town, some even playing in bands together. As the college years rolled around, each began to make decisions geared toward advancing their musical careers. Kees moved to Arcata, CA to pursue a blooming electronic music endeavor. Ventress left school to tour near-full time with the now-defunct Planning Fallacy. Nee left school to work full time as a freelance musician. Wells was off doing God-knows-what with a ridiculous number of bands.
Man Plus Building was birthed in February, 2008 only after Kees returned to Baton Rouge unsatisfied, Nee returned to school after being unimpressed with full-time freelance work, Ventress stopped touring with the Planning Fallacy, and Wells agreed to play in yet another band.
Just four short months later, the band had written a handful of songs, recorded those songs, released them as a debut album entitled ...Because My Name Is Lion, opened for the likes of British Sea Power, GIRL TALK, Film School, and David Dondero, and become a consistent big-time draw in their hometown. But having accomplished all that in such a short amount of time is no indication of a slow down. Man Plus Building is already preparing to release a 7" split by the end of the year and begin touring more rigorously in the fall. As always, more to come...
