Quintino Cinalli is a drummer and percussionist from Venado Tuerto, Argentina. As early as age twelve Quintino was performing with traditional bands in Santa Fe province. He embarked on his professional career in the 80’s in Buenos Aires.
Quintino has made an important contribution to the development of South American percussion by adapting the folkloric rhythms of candombe,
murga, chacarera, zamba and tango to drums and percussion. He is an innovative and passionate artist who incorporates distinct genres of South American roots with jazz, rock and world music while preserving his rich cultural heritage. Quintino captivates audiences around the world with his passion and artistry.
He has performed with great South American musicians such as Pedro Aznar, Rubén Rada, Hugo Fattoruso, Airto Moreira, Dino Saluzzi, Pablo Ziegler, Quique Sinesi and John Benitez. He has participated in various jazz, world music, and drum festivals in South & Central America, Europe and the United States.
Quintino has released four solo cds and has authored a book on Uruguayan drum rhythms called “Candombe y Murga Rioplatense”.
He taught as faculty at the School of Music and Sound at UNIACC University in Santiago, Chile and has been invited to teach master classes internationally.
In 2004, Quintino was awarded the FONDART Award. In 2005, he was recognized at the International Drum Fest of Mendoza for his professional accomplishments and his contributions to South American music.
Currently, Quintino is based in New York City where he is collaborating with a variety of local musicians and participating on recording projects. Recordings in 2009 include with Pablo Ziegler Quartet and the Metropole Orchestra in Holland as well as with Esperanza Spalding under the direction of Gil Goldstein. Quintino has played as a special guest at New York's Blue Note and Jazz Standard as well as at Blues Alley in D.C. While perfecting and expanding his musical horizons he also continues to work on personal music projects. Quintino is endorsed by the prestigious company Latin Percussion.
