New Hampshire-born singer-songwriter Maria DeMaio has been performing since the age of three, when she belted out an impromptu version of Robert Palmer's "Bad Case of Loving You" from her car seat. She has since forged a name for herself in the fierce Boston music scene, winning over audiences at such staples as The Paradise Lounge and Harper's Ferry with her one-two punch of refreshing songwriting and a powerhouse voice that has been called both "soulful" (Boston Globe) and quietly scintillating" (SnapPop!). As frontwoman and songwriter of Maria DeMaio & the Fellas, she created in just two short years a raw and instantly recognizable sound that has set their act a head above the rest.
DeMaio fuses the artistic freedom of jazz, the power of soul, and the raw emotion of blues into a seamless blend that conjures shades of the top artists of the past 30 years. She combines her profoundly emotional delivery with intensely personal songwriting that is steeped in intent and sincerity. With songs that are as catchy as they are clever, Maria demonstrates that pop can break free of its cookie cutter roots. And backed by an ever-increasing fan base, she is well on her way to showing us just how far her sound can go.
You lost your voice?? I'm sorry. That really sucks. I'm sure you're up to your ears in tea right about now :) Amy & I did the open mic challenge at Lizard Lounge a couple times. Either place would be awesome. Think Billy would double bill us at either place? Would you be down for that?
Hey Maria! I see you're playing WERS tomorrow. I'll make sure to get to a radio at 5pm. I'm actually playing today @ 3:30pm w/Tim Blane. I'll be cajoning it up. Check it out if you can. I hope all is well. Me and Amy want to share a bill with you soon. Any preference on local venues?
Hey maria, i dont know if I sent you an email a while back, I meant to...anyhoo, Sean Davies is my drummer and he turned me on to your music...and I am LOVING IT. Really looking forward to seeing you perform! have fun in Wlatham tomorrow night!
Hey Maria! Just put in my order for the new CD, though I must say I was a little disappointed it wasn't available for immediate download. I'm going to have to wait weeks to hear it! (mail is a little slow to reach the Virgin Islands). Anyway, how have ya been?
Hey Maria: I really like these new tunes! Great to re-meet you at Johnny D's. I hope we get a chance to hang again sometime soon! When you comin to New Yawk??
Nice set at Toad on Thursday. I really enjoyed the rearrangment on "Train". That boy can sing! Sorry I missed you. Had to head on over to the Plough mid-set. Cheers. Mk.
It was good to see you at Johnny D's Saturday. Sorry I didn't get to stay and chat. There was a lot of between sets stuff going on. I hope you had a good time though.
Just walking the streets late at night, saw the light and thought I'd knock on your door. How's things? I'm back in Boston next week and then again in Oct for CMJ. I'll stick my head in the door at Toad. You on at the 7pm early slot? Mk.
Hey Maria! I miss you and I got your message, but have been really busy trying to get settled here in Dallas. I LOVE Dallas though. Don't forget me when the CD's come out. Love ya!
Hi Maria, I'm back in town for a week as of this Tuesday, but just for family. I'll most likely be back in August for an extended stay. I'll be looking forward to the new CD! Mk.
