A product of Mona Prep Choir, Campion College Choir, and the University Singers, M.G. is another upcoming Jamaican artiste adding his flavour to the music industry. Unassuming, but energertic, he produces a mix of almost all genres inlcuding R&B, jazz, reggae, dancehall, and combines them to form a unique style. Singing from about the age of 7, Mario has also done his fair share of performing in theatre as well, and singing backup vocals for many established, as well as upcoming artistes, including Benjy Myaz, Camar (pka Flava Unit), the Rocky 5 band, Alaine and Cezar.
Mario is now pursuing a degree at the Berklee College of Music in Songwriting and Music Business, while of course staying close to his home...JAMAICA. Mario has all hopes of becoming one of the future 'movers and shakers' in the Jamaican, as well as the international music scene.
Featured on this site is the demo of "You Used to Love Me", lyrics by Wayne and Mario Guthrie, produced by Wayne Guthrie, DJ Wayne G (aka Alksling; check out his myspace page as well below). The song speaks about love gone wrong about when she used to love him. Now she's moved on and probably hasn't found anything like what she had before. The song is smooth R&B with a lil' jazz feel over a melow hip hop beat.
"Home" is the 1st song played, written, performed and produced by M.G. Home is inspired by the near-death car accident my brother experienced May 2, 2007. I speak about, of course wanting to come home, to be with him and help him recover. The song was initially intended to just be a song about coming home to Jamaica, but then this is what it became. The feeling of almost loosing a best friend, let alone it be your own brother, is almost the worst thing that could ever happen. Thank God for sparing his life. Let me know if you like it!
