Performance details, including time, were not discussed, but will be as
we draw closer to that date.
3 – Our next practice will be Monday, January 19, 7pm, at Grant Middle School.
Until then, stay warm.
This is a reminder of the announcement Bill made today just prior to the
concert.
There will be no practice
on the following dates:

Our next practice sessions

We will be performing 2

practices.
If you know of someone in
the band who wasn’t present at today’s concert, and doesn’t have email, please
let them know this information.
This is a reminder of the
arrangements for our next appearance, which is the Marion Popcorn Festival
Parade, and our next practice.
Parade:
Date: Thursday, September 4, 2014
Place: Marion, Ohio
Time: Parade starts at 6pm. The trailer pulls out of the Harding parking
lot at 5:30.
Performance Details: The last announced plan was to meet in the west
parking lot of Harding High School (on Route 309 just west of route 23).
From there we will ride a trailer through the parade route. The trailer will pull out of the lot around 5:30.
Attire: white shirt & khaki slacks / skirt / shorts, etc.
Equipment: chair (without arms) and music stand or lyre.
Sun screen is always a
good idea, and this year maybe a poncho.
We
will be looking into the sun most of the parade, so a hat or visor might be
helpful too.

Practice Cancelled - 2/17/14
Bill just called to announce
that the Marion Concert Band practice for Monday, 2-17-14, is cancelled due to weather considerations.
Please make sure your fellow
section members, friends (spouses?), and those without email know of the
cancellation. There is little more disturbing than to complete an arduous
journey to attend a cancelled event, only to find that everyone else got the
memo.
Stay warm!

Schedule update - 1/2/14
A quick reminder for those
so inclined and not in a warm weather location.
Practices for the Marion Concert Band will start up again on Monday,
January 6th. As usual we will
be at the Grand Middle School, and practice starts at 7pm.
Some words of caution are
appropriate. It is January, which means
winter. As this is being typed it is 15
degrees, and a brisk wind is drifting snow in front of my garage door. That perfectly compliments the snow piled at
the end of my driveway by the village snowplow.
No matter how wonderful it is to see everyone at practice, we understand
if you feel the combination of weather and road conditions make travel
inappropriate. If Bill has similar
thoughts he’ll cancel practice anyway.
Stay warm and safe.
Schedule Update – 11/27/13
This is a reminder of our December schedule for Christmas at the Palace.
General arrangements:
- Previous years the band was to enter and exit the facility by the west
Pavilion doors. That was not specified
at practice, but is most likely the case this year also. Our horn cases, coats, etc., can be stored
there during our performance.
- The songs we will perform in Christmas
at the Palace are Bugler’s Holiday and Sleigh Ride.
- Bill wants each member to carry their own music stand and chair onto
the stage during intermission. That will
limit the number of unnecessary (empty) chairs on stage during the show.
- As soon as the curtain drops after our performance, each member is
responsible for removing their chair, stand, and music as quietly and quickly
as possible. This will permit the next
act to take stage promptly.
- At practice our desired attire was described as “Christmassy”.
I’m told this includes bright colors appropriate to the season, instead

As a result, our performance time can only be approximate. The past 2 years we were instructed to bring
our own music stands, as those owned by the Palace will be in use in the
orchestra pit. Performance attire has
not been announced.

Another Op’inin’!
Summertime is finally here. So far we’ve had rains, drought, hail, high winds, oppressive heat, and unseasonable cold.
It is hard to beat Ohio weather. Thankfully
our group is not easily deterred. Rain
or shine, we meet for practice each Monday evening preparing for greater
things.
Two of those greater things share our
focus this summer. Shortly we will be
kicking off the “Concerts in the Park” series.
The series is held at McKinley Park in front of the Erickson Pavilion on Sunday evenings at 7:00pm. The events are free to the public and offer a wide variety of musical experiences. Be sure to bring a lawn chair, and some type of sun shade (hat, cap, visor, etc.). For those inclined, some mosquito spray and sun screen might be useful
also.
Due to changes in MySpace we'll have to post the Sponsors and performance schedule separately.
