Mark Cool (yes that's his real name) is a folk/alt-country/americana singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Durham, North Carolina. He mixes old-timey fingerstyles with country/folk influences to create a sound described as "a folky, bluesy, rootsy expostion of the highest order" by Paul Villers of americana UK mag. His singing style has been described as "earthy, gritty, and honest", and compared to Townes Van Zandt and Woody Guthrie. Cool's 2007 album "Introducing Mark Cool and the Folk Stars", was picked by Americana UK magazine's writers as one of the top 20 of 2007, a list that included Wilco, Okkervil River, Crowded House, Peter Case, and others. Special guests on the album included Dom Flemons, of Carolina Chocolate Drops fame. The disc is has been getting airplay on indie radio across the US and in Europe. Cool's new cd "PIE", was released in May '09, and was recorded at Overdub Lane in Durham. Mark's played his 3rd European tour in May, and continues to perform in support of the cd in the U.S.

Mark, You are a true master of your craft. This album has some of the best songs I have heard yet. Even the recording is top notch. I love the whole package. You deserve to be proud. I am! I look forward to seeing you again so I can shake your hand and to tell you how blessed I am to know you. You music touches my soul, your voice moves my heart, your music makes me motivated to try harder at my music. Great job brother. I wish I was involved in some way.
thanks for the compliment on "smirnoff morning"... i think it's actually the second oldest song on the disc, and after all these years, it's probably still my favorite... very personal...
agreed... we really do need some shows together... once we get the disc pressed, we'll be a lot more mobile...
