I must say, that after listening to hundreds of thousands of songs in my lifetime, 3 people stand out as the most inspired songwriters I have ever
enjoyed. Their songs always bring tears to my eyes, and thrills to my ears. They are Jimmy Webb, Stephen Schwartz and John Bucchino. Pop, theatrical, it doesn't matter. Whatever the "it" is, they have it!!
Marsha Malamet is a composer, songwriter, singer, and producer whose music has reached all corners of the globe. At 21, Marsha made her solo recording debut, Coney Island Winter, on Decca Records. Marsha produced live shows in New York, and executive produced the benefit, Reno’s: A Reunion for AIDS. Purchased by A&E and distributed around the world, the show aired as four one hour specials and united legendary performers from the famed New York cabaret, Reno Sweeney.
Marsha’s song, Impatient Heart written with Peter Allen, was the theme song for the first Off-Broadway production of the acclaimed drama, Jane Chambers, Last Summer at Blue Fish Cove.
Marsha had the great opportunity to write a musical with the late legendary Disney writer/lyricist, Howard Ashman. Also written with Dennis Green, it was the trio's first attempt at a commercial production. A modern adaptation of Shakespeare's, The Tempest, entitled, Dreamstuff, it had a run at the now famous Off-Broadway's WPA Theater. Recently, taken out of storage, and given the blessings of Howard's estate, this spring, Marsha and the Hayworth Theater of Los Angeles, are producing a celebrity reading of the musical, directed by Ugly Betty's Michael Urie. The cast includes Eden Espinosa, Vicky Lewis, Fred Willard, and Luke MacFarland.
