I've been writing music for a dog's age now, and performing as part of various bands in the New York City area, most notably as singer/guitarist for Serious Pilgrim, with whom I recorded and toured for a few years, opening for great folks like Aimee Mann, Gov't Mule, Live, Hootie & the Blowfish, Joan Jett, and God knows who else.
Currently, you can catch me playing my compositions with the best band I've ever been in: Craig Meyer on drums, Brian Killeen on bass, Chris Kuffner and Eric Katerle on guitar, and Patrick Firth on organ; performing at venues in Greenwich Village and on the Lower East Side, although music has recently flung me as far as the Virgin Islands, California, and Ireland, with plenty more travel dates to come.
I recently received the honor of an invitation to appear as part of the New York Songwriters' Circle, which was a gas; looking forward to doing it again soon. While that's going on, I'm releasing my new album, Sea of Clouds, on 13 August 2009.
I'm also playing guitar now with Kailin Garrity, with Craig playing drums... she's one of my favorite people, not to mention one of my favorite singers. Check out Kailin's stuff at myspace.com/kailingarrity
Also playing now with Rachel Platten, a positively fantastic singer/songwriter/pianist, who you can hear at http://www.myspace.com/rachelplattenband
You can also catch me appearing with my good friend Craig Meyer as an acoustic duo several nights a week throughout New York City and other far-flung locations (Sir Chuck Hancock appears with us as well at the Red Lion every Sunday and at Prohibition every Wednesday!), performing my songs along with a boatload of vintage r&b, soul, country, and other left-of-center numbers... we call it the "___ Night Campfire" (depending on what night it is)... it's a lot of fun, and I hope you'll join us.
You can hear a couple of songs from my current cd, Pride of the Valley, right here at this page. You can order it here at my myspace page, or from my main site, www.martinrivas.net, or from the iTunes Music Store (search "martin rivas")...
