Mash-ups
are usually associated with underground record shops, bootleg white-labels
and mixtapes changing hands between those in the know.
Now, EMI
has decided to change all of that and after a clearance process of biblical
proportions, bring these explosions of creativity, and massive cut-up
tracks to the masses - legally.
This is
the first fully legal mash-up album of it's kind, and features amongst
others: Madonna vs
A Taste Of Honey, Blondie vs
The Doors, David Bowie vs
Liberty X,
Malcolm McLaren vs
Franz Ferdinand, and Duran Duran vs
Kelis all battling it out.
MASHED
is released on Monday Feb 12th 2007

Most
of these bootlegs come courtesy of Mark
Vidler aka
Go Home Productions, who's been carving and splicing
tracks for several years illegally.
Now he contributes most of the tracks, and has executive
produced the rest.
2007 is going to be huge for Mark Vidler and his Mashed album.
The past year has seen him remixing and producing the likes of Kasabian,
Alicia Keys, David Bowie and Gang Of Four.
His debut single 'Rapture Riders' a mash of Blondie vs The Doors
went into the Billboard Charts at number 1 and he's been busy putting
the finishing touches to this album.
His DJ sets are not to be missed. GHP has DJ'd in Japan, New York,
Los Angeles, San Francisco and many corners of Europe, teasing the
crowd with his unexpected combinations.
Mark has regularly produced DJ Mixes for Radio1, XFM and BBC6 Music
in the UK and WFMU, Live 105 and K-Rock in the US.
His new original material is yet to be discovered and will be making
an appearance on EMI early next year.

As
well as Vidler, two of the mash-ups (Madonna vs Taste Of Honey and
Mousse T vs The Dandy Warhols) have been made by French performers/producers/remixers/djs
Loo and Placido.
Massive in Europe these two have been making waves across the mash-up
scene with their own MTV show as well as doing a "Superchunk"
30 minute mix on XFM in 2004 that was voted "Session Of The Year"
by XFM listeners.
