When listening to this band your mind's eye finds itself being sucked through a gramophone shaped tunnel and dropped into a realm of cinematic surrealism, spoon bending noises and timeless rock 'n' roll. They sound as if they've taken the brains of Quentin Tarantino, Tom Waits and David Lynch, seasoned them with opium, stuffed them into a meat grinder and baked them in a junkyard on the sun. So step through the fur padded elevator doors and press one of the shiny buttons, you've entered the looking glass world of Matt Boroff & the Mirrors.
A singer / songwriter / guitarist from Northern New Jersey Matt Boroff spent the nineties playing clubs and touring with his former band Planet Dread. In the late nineties he began playing solo gigs in NYC during which time he met his future Austrian wife Marion Keckeis. Matt and Marion visited Austria in 2000 where Matt met drummer Little Konzett. Matt and Little teamed up and began playing frequent club tours solidifying a raw yet intimate sound that swung without warning from one end of the dynamic spectrum to the other. After a few line up changes they released their self-titled debut album in 2004 on Lo-End Records. Later that year the debut album was met with much critical acclaim that propelled them to new heights and exposed them to a wider audience. In January 2005 German bassist Rolf Kersting joined Matt and Little on tour and ended up becoming a full time member. With Rolf on bass the band's triangular chemistry took a noticeable leap forward on the 2006 release of their 2nd album "Ticket To Nowhere".
After two years of steady touring the band headed into the studio again in October of 2007 to record what was to become their 3rd studio album Elevator Ride. Elevator Ride was released in September of 2008, the album opens with Matt Boroff and The Mirrors using their raw, elemental rock sound to conjure up vivid scenes of an American desert. The twelve songs that the album churns out are surprising in both their level of diversity and uniformity. Whether a steamroller track like The Beetle or a ballad like Ways comes rattling out of your speakers, the trio is always in command as they shape-shift from song to song . They're able to generate a musical energy that's rarely heard these days; a fact that stands as a testament to the well known live qualities of the trio. Since Boroff's homeland is the USA, Matt Boroff and The Mirrors are regularly moving between continents where they've been heard on American, British and other European stages, all the way down to Northern Africa.
The band has been touring steadily in support of Elevator Ride since the spring of 2008.The wave of critical acclaim they've received following the album's release has continued to open new doors for them. Five of Elevator Ride's songs will be featured in the soundtrack of the upcoming film Little Fish Strange Pond, set for release in 2009.
