Matteah Baim was born in America in 1979 and has lived all over it since then. Her first stop being the Milwaukee Art Museum to see Larry Clark’s Tulsa series, followed by the Eagles Ballroom to see one band upstairs and another down. She went onto to study painting and drawing at the San Francisco Art Institute. Each week in San Francisco, she spent a night with the Coquettes cooking. Baim soon found herself in a New York City basement playing music with Sierra Casady. They formed the soft-metal band, The Metallic Falcons. Following their release of Desert Doughnuts, Baim landed out in Venice Beach. Here she wrote music for her first solo record, Death of the Sun. Following a brief trip out to Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch she returned to New York and began composing the album, Laughing Boy. Recorded on the south side of Chicago, it was released in April 2009. Most recently, Baim has collaborated on a film score with the French group, Pillars of Fire and performed in Antony’s Another World Performance-Installation at the Clock Tower. Tours with Antony and the Johnsons, Devendra Banhart, Jana Hunter, and Lichens have brought her to stages around the world.
