MATTHEW POP
"Blending bubblegum pop and garage rock, Brooklyn's Matthew Pop ends up sounding a bit like Rivers Cuomo heading into even more power-poppy territory than he does with Weezer. The Great Demise is the debut full-length."
- Flagpole Magazine.
PRESS RELEASE:
Matthew Pop teams up with A&R Select to promote "The Great Demise".
HOLLYWOOD, CA
Matthew Pop has announced his alliance with A&R Select, Hollywood's hottest indie A&R firm. The aptly named power pop artist is busy touting his current release, "The Great Demise", a flavorful rock offering that is helping redefine rock while giving audiences the kind of rock-n-roll energy they demand.
"While touring is pending, the music on the new album certainly speaks for itself. According to a spokesman for A&R Select, "Pop's heart belongs one hundred percent to rock and 'The Great Demise' totally demonstrates that."
"Music is my life", Pop confesses. "It makes me feel absolutely incredible", he says, echoing feelings expressed by fans about his own music.
Pop is a two-time finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, carving a niche for himself in the pop category, naturally. And he has shared the stage with the likes of Regina Spektor.
When asked about the secret to his songwriting skills, he says, simply, "Melody first".
"Pop's simple but effective rule for making great music is paying off and will continue to do so", according to A&R Select.

IS THIS MUSIC VIDEO SEXY, OR WHAT??!!!
"BREAKDOWN" - MUSIC VIDEO!! - DIRECTED BY ALICIA A. MURPHY
From live-for-the-moment anthems of reckless youth to angst-filled tales of doomed late-night love, Matthew's songs have always had more twists and turns than a John Grisham spy novel. One moment, he's showing the sensitive inner man, backing his intimate lyrics with delicate acoustic guitar textures and then he Jeckyll and Hydes you with some close-the-shutters and lock-up-your-daughters rock and roll. Wherever his inspiration comes from, Matthew Pop emerged as an old-school tunesmith, someone who approached the craft of song writing with one simple edict: If you can't walk away singing the tune after just one listen, it ain't worth the digital medium it was recorded on. Writing, recording, and performing since he was fourteen, Matthew is finally beginning to win the acclaim and attention that his archives of over two-hundred well-crafted songs deserves. Two of them, "Get It On" in 2004 and "Belgium Baby" in 2005, were finalists in the pop category of the JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING COMPETITION and MTV's THE REAL WORLD featured "Get It On" in several of their episodes, as well as "Buried In The Sun" being featured in Episode 1.19 of MTV's "WHY CAN'T I BE YOU?". Strongly influenced by a mix of classic and contemporary artists like the Beatles, Elvis Costello, and Radiohead, critics have often compared Matthew to the likes of Thom Yorke, Elliott Smith, Weezer, and the Eels. A dynamic, swaggering, live performer, Matthew, who never lacks for self-confidence, proudly attributes his stage prowess to two basic qualities: I got more hooks in my songs than a bait and tackle shop, and chicks dig me. Matthew Pop has played many prestigious New York area clubs like Southpaw, The Hook, Warsaw, Pianos, and Maxwells, as well as playing solo gigs in the region's acoustic venues. Having recently completed a successful tour of the Southeast and a highly regarded performance as the opening act for Sire Records' REGINA SPEKTOR at the Cabaret de la Musee in Montreal, Matthew's attention is now focused on his new album,"The Great Demise", on which he wrote, co-produced, arranged all the material and played all the instruments. If you long for the days of unforgettable melodies and lyrics you can't get out of your head, the kind that torment you in the shower and have you embarrassing yourself singing in public places, you better get popped!!!

Oh My God, do you actually have more than one friend who suffers simultaneously from crazy hang overs and pink eye?! Well, I one up them and get strep at the same time, that's how I roll. I go big, all the way! Cool new song. You found a way to incorporate Masterbating into a song, awesome! Haha

Thank you so much I'm so mad I couldn't stay and see your set I'm 16 and in school and it's crazy times. My mother is the one who drags me all around and supports my music, and my father is the one who thinks I should be a "real teenager" so he yelled and screamed and i had to be home. ha
