Influences
Matthew is one of the finest guitarists i've ever heard. His conception, touch, time feel and jazz vocabulary put him in the top 1% of all guitarists with whom i have worked.
-Rick Peckham, Assistant Chair, Guitar Dept. Berklee College of Music
The audience, mostly student musicians, hung onto every wandering story and Miles-ian blast he had to offer, and were entranced by guitarist Matthew Stevens’ fiery lines….
- JAZZ TIMES
Stevens is given plenty of solo space and provides some dazzling fretwork (it's even more fun to watch it on the DVD).
- SOMETHING ELSE!
To hear Scott's piercing phrases set against guitarist Matthew Stevens' wide-open chords was to marvel at the empathetic connection between two keenly sensitive young musicians.
- CHICAGO TRIBUNE
Stevens, the only constant here with Scott's two discs, is another young player with plenty of potential. His growth since Anthem is unmistakable—the Scofield/Frisell/McLaughlin influences remain, but have become more fully subsumed into a personal voice that begs for a solo release of his own.
- ALL ABOUT JAZZ
guitarist Matthew Stevens delivers lovingly phrased solos……
- BILLBOARD
Jazz guitar fans have an extra treat in store Sunday -- joining Scott on stage is Matt Stevens, who almost steals the show from Scott on "Rewind That," in which most of the tracks feature the guitarist's dizzying, contemporary-sounding lines.
- THE DAILY NEWS
Guitarist Matt Stevens channels Pat Metheny's sharp, illuminating brightness in "Litany Against Fear" and "Rumor."
- CONCORD RECORDS (CHRIS SLAWECKI)
Matthew is a unique and imaginative guitarist. I'm always intrigued by his voicings and approach.
- JEFF LORBER (multiple grammy nominated keyboardist)
Lage Lund who—along with Jonathan Kreisberg, Matt Stevens and Nate Reeves—represents the next wave of guitarists behind Kurt Rosenwinkel, Adam Rogers and David Gilmore.
Matthew Stevens grew up in Toronto before graduating from the Berklee College of Music. He moved to New York City in 2006, where he has been the featured guitarist for critically acclaimed trumpeter, Christian Scott. A versatile composer and musician, Stevens has worked with many universally acclaimed musicians, and been applauded in numerous publications worldwide. He has toured extensively, and played at major jazz festivals. In 2010 Stevens will be releasing two recordings. Hi my friend, Here my new track "Please Stay" and hope it gives you dream... Make a comment if you like and don't forget Epsilon's World cannot exist without you ;) Friendly Epsilon
Thanks so much for the Add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends!
We've just added two new blogs about Umano, plus four more new compositions, making ten on our space. We hope you and your friends visit us and enjoy our music, too.
We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
Although it's not an original thought, it also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
