I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and hail from a long line of pillars of the community........Hatfields, harlots and a preacher or two. I had a great aunt that boarded up the windows of a house and set it on fire with her husband in it and a grandmother that shot her husband, so needless to say, I approach love with caution.
There were the obligatory bootleggers in Dark Corner South Carolina and my Great grandpa B.T. Wright was a trainman in Eastern Kentucky, he also worked in the coal mines.
....Bluegrass music makes me homesick and books make me want to never go back.
I did a stint for a major label, rode on a big bus and then learned how to tour the country solo.
Songwriting forces me to try and connect to the world...most of the time it has the opposite effect and I swear that I'll never get out of my own head.
I have a propensity to dumpster dive.
Love hobos, knives, the 1930's, you, humility, free thinkers, strong coffee, old books and anything arcane or esoteric. I also find prime numbers EXTREMELY compelling.
I am glad that I found you on myspace. Hey if you are around Nashville, we are playing for a great benefit on June 6th at Centennial Park in Nashville. Here is some more information if you want to participate. Either way, we will let you know as we get more music done.....Thanks for the friendship! :) On June 6, 2009, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America will host its yearly Take Steps event at Centennial Park in Nashville. The event starts at 4:00 pm and registration is at the Band Shell. A lot of different businesses and groups participate and I would be honored if you would join my team or if you prefer you can create your own. I am flying out with my Los Angeles based band, Svedish Fish, in support of this event and we would love to see you there representing the music community in Nashville. To join our team go to http://online.ccfa.org/site/TR/Walk/Chapter-Tennessee?pg=entry&fr_id=1240 and enter Team Savannah & Svedish Fish.
I first heard you on: "TRAILER PARK OF TERROR". Your sound reminded me of being back home in the swamps. I immediately bought a copy of: "RUBE" and anxiously await the next one.
Matt, I don't know if you remember me or not, but we met the other night in Cody's backyard. I just want you to know, I find myself coming back to your Myspace page on a daily basis to get my daily fill of Rube. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. This is some of the most refreshing, original music that I have come across in a loooooong time. You definitely have a very interesting story to tell as well as a unique view on life. Keep up the good work, Bro and keep doing it your way. Don't ever sell out to the corporate assholes! It's perfect the way it is!
I just discovered your music this past week. Once in a while I hear something that makes me take notice in a special way. Your music has certainly done that. I look forward to what is to come down the road. Dave
