The Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary art that presents "art you can get into" - room sized environments created by in-residence artists. Located in Pittsburgh's historic Mexican War Streets since 1977, the Mattress Factory is one of few museums of its kind anywhere in the world.

In June, 2008 Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections and The Academy of the South Side will present "CITYWIDE SALON", a month-long public showcase of Pittsburgh artists' work, providing a great opportunity for widespread exposure throughout the city. Up to 20 works by local artists will be reproduced in bus kiosks throughout the city along the 54C route, giving participants the chance to bring their art directly to the people and also to keep the sizable (69" x 48") poster for future promotional use. A dance event featuring the world premiere of newly commissioned scores by esteemed Japanese composers Somei Satoh (Tokyo) and Miyuki Ito (Nagoya) and Attack Theatre Music Director Dave Eggar. Ancient myths collide with contemporary images while classic sounds and high-energy physicality coalesce in a passionate look at modern life.
