Hey.
So you've found my tiny iota of the myspace Empire. Good on ya.
Let's get one thing out of the way: I'm not trying to sell you anything! There are no CDs to buy, no merch to hock, no record deals to covet.
So instead of trying to sell myself to you as the next big thing, I thought I'd just provide somes notes and a little insight into the songs I've posted so you can enjoy them for all that they're worth.
A lot of time and effort (but not exactly a lot of money) went into these tunes. Let me know what you think.
The Last One: A song about letting go...and getting over the realization that I had been expending a lot of musical energy on one particular messy breakup. So, I thought I'd go out with one last blaze of glory and move on, understanding that the certain someone these songs were addressed to probably wasn't even paying attention. Typical.
So Long, Babe Ruth!: People throw around the word 'pilgrimage' a little too much these days, but SLBR details a failed pilgrimage to Yankee Stadium. A scheduling screw-up prevented me from getting inside and it was a tad disappointing to travel all that way and not get to see the House That Ruth Built (is it all coming together now?). Thank you very much, Major League Baseball! Luckily, I have since been and the ghosts of this song have been exorcised.
Sunrise/Sunset: This song was written while wandering aimlessly around the Roman Forum on a 35 degree day a few years back. Contemplating life, evaluating the significance of world history - ya know, like most people do on vacation.
The Fine Art of Self-Defense (acoustic version): I thought the acoustic arrangement of this song (which was the way I had played it live for years) was a good one, so thus, I laid it down. The song itself is about the disappointment people felt when they weren't living out their 'American Pie' dreams upon arriving at University and the overall humour I found in it. Cynical it may be, but I end up making a pretty decent point, wouldn't you say?
