Spaceheads & Max Eastley : a very long way from anywhere else [bleep 35]
Spaceheads are a unique duo of trumpet (Andy Diagram) played through electronics and looped with drums (Richard Harrison). Max Eastley is a sound sculptor, artist, and musician who plays an instrument he invented and made himself called The Arc. It is a monochord of wood and wire, which is scraped, bent and flexed into an orbit of amplified effects. This new CD was recorded live, improving at two very different locations, one an island of the south of France during Mimi festival, and the other a remote village on the North Yorkshire moors, both venues a very long way from anywhere else.
"A fascinating meeting of surreal improv strategies and electronic abstraction, A Very Long Way From Anywhere Else, is, as the title suggests, a pretty unique piece of work. Recommended." BOOMKAT / UK
HAROLD NONO - “To The River Lounge” - now available on Bearsuit Records:
"...light touches of an electronic kind leave hairs on end and ears gently strained... this is a laid back album, with a menacing undercurrent…" [subba-cultcha]
* "extremely beautiful and glistening slices of minimalism" [BGN-WHITE_LINE]
* "...there is an eerily intriguing quality to this album. ...A Marie Celeste-like air of mystery hangs over To The River Lounge, and that's all to the good." [The WIRE]
* "It’s completely unique and I have never heard anything like this before... a high intensity listen..." [the-mag]
* "strange and beautiful ...haunting" [Julie Christensen and Stone Cupid]

Hi Max, you probably won't remember me, but I attended your talk at Salford university irwell valley campus earlier this year, Just dropping by to let you know very much enjoyed that day, some of the work is still in my mind now: the Aeolian Harps and also the video of the shinto-esque bamboo instruments on the Beach... Inspiring Stuff. Thought you may like to know of my stuff as I didnt get much of a chance to speak after the talk... Dissolving Records, a small record label, the influences box on the profile gives you a little idea about the concepts behind it. The debut album on the label by a group of us under the name 'The Dissolving Orchestra' should be out to buy soon (i will post a bulletin when it is), It is group improvised electronics but with an emphasis on evocation and atmosphere, the most succesful of the tracks are on the album, but there are some non-album tracks to listen to on the profile. Thought you may be interested, and wanted to say thanks for the thought-provoking talk. Peace Thomas @ Dissolving
