"I was a...piano player in my last lifetime. Now I write rhymes, sip white wine and let my life shine." Except for those last two. Let me elaborate briefly on the piano part...
I dabbled with violin, recorder, piano and rubber-band cereal box (not necessarily in that order) as a kid. But really, I started out in 6th grade on flute. That eventually became too feminine for my insecure middle-school self. So I switched to sax. That was cool cause it got me into jazz band and (more importantly) preliminary dabblings in an incredibly important component of the African-American experience. It also allowed me to turn a punk band in high school into a punk-ska band. That got me checkered pants and a studded bracelet. Wowed by the guitars in the band, I then decided to learn guitar, start singing, and start a more ska-oriented band of my own.
That band went in a Maceo Parker type funk direction eventually, after getting bored with Ska, and then in a jazz direction after getting bored with funk and key cats graduating from high school.
I hit a plateau with jazz guitar, so I took up the piano. That's when I really jumped into music in the sense of practicing long hours. Being a visual person, the piano just made sense more than any other instrument. One middle C and I could always see it.
At the end of college, I got radicalized so it was only a matter of time before I would get seek a more political avenue of musical expression then jazz piano. Put simply, its hard to say "smash imperialism and the state" with a bebop line, no matter how good you are. Eventually, it dawned on me that I could combine writing, music, and politics in hip hop.
So a few months ago, I just up and decided to become an MC.
Hey, sick of facebook right now. thought I would pop over for a quick listen. I am starting to play with trip hop bands now, so basically, I only play classical when the mood strikes the riviera is beautiful right now, but full of drunk brits who spend all day on their yachts; I hate them! Cool chilly chill, we'll smok' it on the way back---my quote from Us3, and my way of signing off.
Burning bright We’re expected to embrace The Beijing flame Human rights Are denied So they can play their stupid games
But we couldn’t go to Moscow Because the Commies were bad guys But now they want to buy Nike And they can sell us cheap textiles And depress all dissent And that is the democracy we like
Sweat Shop labour To make the toys Stamped with Olympic pride Crimes of poverty In a rich nation Hidden from our eyes
But we don’t delve too deeply Because we need the market Don’t want to lose our profits Or even our position We’ve got to keep on creaming That is the democracy That is the democracy Keep our nation rich and free That is the democracy we like
Kids are killing their friends and themselves in our wonderful western democracies - how the hell did this come to pass
Cold Dead Hands
He had murder in mind When he walked through the door Guitar case full of toys From a convenience store
If tomorrow's so bright Why is his head full of pain It's the American dream It's going to shoot your children down Again and again
He's a high school killer America's furture He's a high school killer From a child to a butcher You've got to take it From his cold dead hands
Well he was Rambo Stallone And Charlton Heston in black Terminator Schwarzenegger But he won't be coming back He will not be back
From Columbine Down to North Illinios Your country's murdering Your Pride and Joy The disllusionment and alienation The fear and pain in your fuck up nation

From exile, 1932 Trotsky speaks on a series of historical prerequisites necessary for the October Revolution:
1. The rotting away of the old ruling classes—the nobility, the monarchy, the bureaucracy.
2. The political weakness of the bourgeoisie, which had no roots in the masses of the people.
3. The revolutionary character of the peasant question.
4. The revolutionary character of the problem of the oppressed nations.
5. The significant weight of the proletariat.
To these organic preconditions we must add certain conjunctural conditions of the highest importance.
6. The revolution of 1905 was a great school, or in Lenin’s words, the ‘dress rehearsal’ of the revolution of 1917. The soviets, as the irreplaceable organizational form of the proletarian united front in the revolution, were created or the first time in the year 1905.
7. The imperialist war sharpened all the contradictions, tore the backward masses out of their immobility and thereby prepared the grandiose scale of the catastrophe.
But all these conditions, which fully sufficed for the outbreak of the revolution, were insufficient to assure the victory of the revolution. For this victory one condition more was needed:

Description: A public reenactment of a historic speech originally given by Paul Potter, former President of the Students for a Democratic Society, at the April 1965 March on Washington to End the War in Vietnam near the Washington Monument on the National Mall. This event is part of the Port Huron Project, a series of reenactments of protest speeches from the 1960s and 70s. Each performance in the project is staged at the site of the original speech and is delivered by an actor to an audience of invited guests and passers-by. Videos of these events are then distributed online and on DVD. The project is named after the Port Huron Statement, the visionary manifesto of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a radical student group formed in 1962.
