Guitarist Michelle Meldrum began her career when she and drummer, Gene Hoglan, started their first band Wargod. Gene went on to notoriety with Death, Dark Angel, Testament and Strapping Young Lad, while Michelle founded Phantom Blue (Shrapnel, Roadrunner, Geffen Records). While her career flourished, she moved to Sweden to form MELDRUM.
After extensive touring worldwide with Motörhead, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, Sepultura, Danzig, and Nashville Pussy, Michelle reunited with Gene in 2006 when he appeared as a guest on MELDRUM's second album and tour events.
Inspired to once again collaborate, Michelle returned to America where they began
writing the next MELDRUM release together, in between Gene's appearances with Dethklok (the band from the animated cartoon Metalocalypse on Nickelodeon's Adult Swim).
In 2008, after members Moa Holmstem and Frida Stähl departed the band to pursue other interests, MIchelle rebuilt a new lineup, with metal lyricist/vocalist Michele Madden (Tourettes) and Laura Christine (Warface, Damnation) on bass.
The result was a distinct sonic blend, a rare chemistry, and a hit in the studio. The new blood gave birth to a special energy that the writing structure reflected... a perfect fit for the new blueprint.
However, in mid production, tragedy struck. On May 18th, after recording the new album material and shooting, Michelle Meldrum was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California, in critical condition. Three days later, on May 21, she passed away as a result of a cystic growth on her brain.
The remaining members pulled together in their grief, channeling their emotion into a proud tribute to their fallen bandmate by finishing what they set out to accomplish - the new album called LIFER.
Touting a combination of mammoth aggressive and melodic vocal stylings, mind bending guitar riffs, and a rhythm section that creates fiercely bombastic grooves,
MELDRUM offers a unique, cutting edge sound that will shock anxious fans who have waited patiently for the new release (and Michelle's last requiem).
With that, the new tracks MELDRUM will unveil now trump anything previously unleashed from an already potent venture.
Currently: Completed writing and recording in the studio 2008 for their new release in 2009. Their music appears on television and movies, including videos and coverage on MTV Headbangers Ball, havoc 101 TV and DirecTV. Meldrum Benefit event featuring special guests will be at Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood CA on May 26, 2009, with new release, merchandise and tour dates announced thereafter.
