Sounds Like
Mellonta Tauta is formed in August 1988, when Leticia Solari joined Daniel Lopez Quiroga and Augusto Maurandi. On the beginning the group was seeking to experiment with ultramodern sounds inspired by artists like Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, Japan, Talk Talk and Wolfgang Press.
Leticia has experienced in an intuitive way and without any musical formation with a mini - sampler, the Casio CZ101, and then joined the Sampler AKAI S612 and the sinte Yamaha DX27.
August added up his cavernous and voluptuary bass, motivated by his admiration for Simon Gallup's style, John Entwistle from The Who and Mick Karn from Japan.
Daniel contributed from the electrical guitar his incipient style new wave with dark touches, arpeggioes and climates as landscapes more than rhythmic. He takes charge also of the programming of the mythical Casio RZ1, rhythms machine.
The band begins to be employed at new material without limiting itself to anything, moved deeply by instrumental topics of deep experimentation, and for songs with the voice at the expense of August. Daniel frequented the School of Visual Arts for so he adds to the band also the visual complement with projections of slides extremely colourful.
The work of this period has resulted in a historic concert that took place in a warehouse called “La Frontera”, an old recycled factory, dedicated to sheltering artistic ultramodern experiences, which at the time attending all the restless spirits of the city.
That December 31 1988, atthe New Year Celebration Party, Mellonta Tautas deployed its entire arsenal, with a new sound for this land, an explosive cocktail of multicolored samplers, alienated guitars, spectral voices telling oppression and anguish. The performace was completed with slides and an installation of lights between scrap cars.
That night in the battery was Federico Aldaz (former Magazine) which his alter- punk style explosion gave dynamics and explosion to MT's music.
